Duke front end and Wheels

Hi All

Has anyone seen or heard of and Duke 2 front end in yokes on a 2004 Fe450
The rear wheel fits like a glove.

i have mock built the front end up to check stance etc but i have not change the yokes yet IMO i think it give the bike a great stance.

the bike is being built for a toy not a SM racer.

Any info would be appreciated

Hi mate. I'm pretty sure the bearings match up - just the inside diameter is different to accommodate the different size stems. To the best of my knowledge - Duke 2 bearings are L45449 1.98"OD, 1.417"ID, 0.56 depth/height and Berg bearings are L44643 1.98"OD, 1"ID, 0.56" depth. In theory all that should be required is for the Duke stem to be shortened. If that's not possible due to the profile of the stem narrowing, maybe the stem can be pressed out and a spacer/packer of the correct size can be introduced under the bottom yoke to draw the stem down to the size needed (again, if the profile of the stem allows enough space for the bearing still). Just a suggestion I'm putting out there for consideration - might well not be possible!

Another possible option - get a pair of spacer sleeves made up to fit the Duke forks in your stock Berg lower triple clamp (top clamp should be the right size - 54mm). Just make sure the sleeves have a cut/split down the length to enable the triple clamp to do it's job properly (same concept as the KTM axle reducer kit part# SXS03540400). Also make sure the forks are spaced the same distance apart as with the Duke yokes, so the wheel spacers/caliper/disc etc. all align as they should.

If you can fit the Duke triple clamps, you should. With the axle being directly below the fork (not leading in front like the dirt bike forks) the offset will be critical in how the bike handles. The Duke will likely have something like 34mm +/- offset, where as the dirt bike triples will be somewhere in the 20mm +/- range.
The Duke clamps will also have the correct width for the wheel/hub.

agree with Roger here. does this mean then 'Rochester' that you can fit a front tyre hugger! I've been looking for this kind of easy fix for some time!!!

Right I now have the front end completely bolted up and yes Steve was right it's a case of swapping the bearings with the ktm ones as they fit in the race perfectly!!

As it now has Duke2 forks it can take the standard duke Mudguard.

And I he front of the bike is about 5inches lower than when it was a Dirtbike so yes it been a very easy conversion to play about with!

It will be coming up to you next year Taffy to get carb and bits running perfect.

give me a height point somewhere up on the bike: level ground etc. shall we say one of the 4 clamp bolts-top edge? I'll compare it to 1-2 bikes here for you so that you know the difference down to the millimetre.

I can then work out for you the triple clamp offset required from the KTM and then you need to work out what you have. we can even discuss the handling.

luckily, the KTM Duke 2 is a fat-phuqer and it should be just about right from the off. was there a difference in wheel weight?

Right on level ground to the centre on the top bolt on the yokes is 1010mm ?

hopefully what i have done will be ok the bike will just be a weekend summer toy not a race bike,but any advice is very welcome and bloody handy.

Will the front wheel hit the header pipes on full compression?
I guess it would depend on the offset on the yokes.

Looking good Karl - glad it's coming together nicely!
If it was me - I'd trim, the whole "front" section of the Duke mudguard off just leaving the fork protection and "hugger" section behind the forks, and run the Berg (SM length) front fender with it. A bracket would need to be knocked up for the Berg fender, or possibly drill the lower clamp?
Standard Duke 2 offset is 35mm

But now that you mentioned that Steve I going to be open to se what to do first thing will be to ride it once it's built up
