dual taper needles arriving!

just to let y'all know that I've had 300 Dual taper Needles made in Brass. I'm making them overlength and with 9 clips so as long as you don't need c1 we should be OK!

It's taken me 7 years of development to get to this and I was ready for production 2 years ago if only i could go testing one more time. alas, my bike was never together so I just had to wait, and wait!

but now they're coming to me and all I need to do is evaluate their work, suss the clip position and then it will go out the door.

It has a very lean straight and early taper start followed by a harsh finishing taper to a thin tip. as you know, I already sell a 'Trail & Enduro' kit and a 'Road & Track' kit. this will give the benefits of both. biggest benefactors will be the Trail boys that want more top speed. this will give them more top end and better fuel economy. for anyone on the road, this needle will make life easier in stop start situations: the bike won't get all "huffy and puffy"!

starting will still be the same as all the kits = first time we hope!

I don't have a price for the needle yet but I guess around £30 for just the needle. trouble is all the cheap skates want the needle and then ask me for all the jet sizes so I may cut all that hoo-haa out and just say: "needle in a kit only" and the only exceptions being those that have already purchased a kit.

so, I just need to test the needle and then we're go.

Due to workload I've been unable to test the needle but I entrusted it to about the only man I can and gave him the needle. Sparks has tested it and I give you an abbreviated report below.

Been out for a 2 hour blast this afternoon using your needle, what can I say man, I think it is the dogs bollocks, The idle is as steady as a rock, I think best ever, good off the bottom end good mid range, and goes like **** top end,..... the roll on/roll off is also good, no harshness as I call it.

Have you got a name for it yet?

Not to sure how this needle will fare on gas, so I'll leave it in a while and do some mileage tests.

So on the hole Taff I think you've done an excellent job mate, a needle made for the engine, not a needle made for the carb, if you know what I mean.

just to be clear, the best you can do for MPG is to have the correct jetting and then work on smaller throttle settings as what you are really doing is twisting in power so the more power the engine produces the smaller the throttle setting. you can be ever so slightly lean of centre and that's all.

The needle is only for sale in a kit unless you can verify that YOU bought a kit off me in which case I'll sell you the needle for £30.

Just to be clear, the needle has 5 tapers in it going from straight to less than D, a D, an E, an F and some G as well.

got my new needle fitted this morning and went out for a blast and wow my 650 feels like a new bike!

initially i fitted it on clip 5 but the bike didnt like it (wouldnt idle and popping and banging) so i lifted it to clip 7, she started 1st kick and idled at a rock steady 2000 rpm so i turned it back down to 1600 rpm which i have never been able to do before (my bike is fairly well tuned with one of taffys top end cams, full doma titanium system, dna airfilter and a taffy tuned sem coil, so i have never been able to get my idle below 1800 rpm without it stalling).

anyway out on the road round my favourite set of twisties the bike was so smooth it felt fuel injected, tried a snap wheelie test in second gear and no bogging whatsoever even though i have completely disabled the accelerator pump and slow speed riding round town in 1st and 2nd gear the bike didnt get lumpy and spluttery just off the throttle like it used to.

and best of all as i joined onto a main A road i gave it a fist full in second and the front lifted so much easier than before, kept it up right through to 5th gear before i had to slow for a corner, i used to have to pull on the bars to do that before but now it wheelies effortlessy (almost too easy :D )

top job taffy and definately well worth the £25

woo-hoo craig!

I have had some development needles in my box for the dell ortos for about two years. I kind of copied the profile down in minature so you inspire me to try these expreimentals in the dell ortos as well.....

awesome.

do try a smaller MJ because I think they'll take it.

anyone with a KTM 400/450 or 525 want to give the needle a try? they have essentially the same top end so there's no reason why they shouldn't be good?

PM me and I'll sort a kit out.

Hi Taff

Are you going to make a new needle for the DELLORTO ??

ZAGA

I HAVE needles for the dell orto! I just don't get any spare time to test them. I have a gardner carb as well which I must test...

too much to do mate!

I'll have another look at them Zaga but you could be out of your depth trying to work out why it isn't working.
