Dual Spring Valve Spring Kit

Enginehardware said:
On a small 350/400 engine these small valves are OK, for a female riding style.
With a big volume engine for us heavy lads, we recomend 40/34 Titanium valves.

Sleep well.

Fits perfect, been using them for years.
Either KTM SX450 OEM parts.
or you can buy a aftermarket spring kit for half price.

ok troops!

i have fitted and run for a coupla miles the dual springs but i have a preloaded condition of 33mm! so far after a test run - so good!

i have my first and possibly last race of the season on sunday and that will surely test it to de.... oh i won't say it!

i will be having the engine down after the race anyway because it has been knackered by a 10p 'O' ring in the carb that was shi....in' neat fuel in the engine.

anyway, took the rocker cover off and had to dremel a tiny amount more alloy off the inside of the rocker cover and at the same time removed the manual decomp shaft and the cable from the bike. it's autodecompornothing from now on!

Taffy

ok boys as if to prove that mr lineaweaver knows his onions i ran the bike red lining it regularly today with zero valve bounce or problems. just to recap, joe rune lineaweaver valve springs which are preloaded down to just 33mm while the ktm springs it is recommended are preloaded to just 29-30mm.

well i'm running the ktm springs at 33mm as well and they are absolutely fine!

Hi Taffy,

The installed 'Outer' spring height of Dales kit is 1.29" to 1.32", thats 32.766mm to 33.528mm. On Dales kit the inner spring is compressed to a shorter installed height because the titanium spring retainer has a boss machined on it that compresses it to a shorter installed height when the outer spring is compressed to the design spec.

If you have an installed outer spring height of 32.9mm I suggest you keep it at that. That leaves room for some valve recession before you reach the maximum for his kit.

Of course this assumes the kit you have has the same springs as in Dale's kit.

Just as a reminder, you need to check all 4 valves in their seats.

Best Regards,

Joe

the above is from Joe and this is the measurement from the packet: 29.65 - 29.9mm

so i think that as long as none of your valves are larger than 35mm you will have no problem with valve bounce. 37s? well they will need to be tested.

did anyone have a comment on the fact that i tested mine with the springs preloaded to 33mm?

I think the earlier Bergs like yours Taffy have a spring hieght of 33mm, with the valves being slightly longer, where as my spring hieght when I fitted the KTM springs was 30mm.(550 04).

Steve.
