Drain Bung and strainer - out!

OK latest parts to dry up are the strainer and the drain bung for the up to and including 2002s!

first of all if anyone has seen a source for these items then please let us know? I haven't.

latest effort I'm making is that unless I hear differently, I'm having a large amount of drain bungs made next week in stainless steel and the head size will be 17mm, I will also do a better champfer in.

as for the strainer: I've drawn a blank on an exact copy but please do look for me (and you, and others!) anyway, at the moment I'm looking at modifying two into one.

best I can do!

regards

Taffy

no comment on this? 8O 8O

I guess it'll only matter when people need one for themselves? would appreciate any links to someone who makes the strainers?

I'm having some drain bungs made in stainless steel with a 17mm head on it. :D :D

Hi Taffy

The drain bungs it's easy, you can do it anywhere, what worries me is the strainers !!!

I don't have any idea were that comes from, is it possible to make the bungs in a way that you can use a newer strainer ?

at the moment I'm looking at joining two chipalatas to make one sausage! :D :D

well, I don't know what is easy about the drain bungs Jose but I'll believe you! I'm having them made and have decided to try and improve them while I'm there.

More glum news I'm afraid: they have stopped the 95mm HG for the
501 up to 2001 and
600 up to 2001.

I'm recommending that people use the 92mm 400cc headgasket and check the piston is not within 1-1.25mm of the top of the barrel and even if it is, all they need to take off is that distance down and 0.75mm in from the edge.

could be that nothing needs touching.

a real shame that even headgaskets are now included.....

about the hg am i right in thinking that the ktm 525 has near enough exactly the same cylinder head as the early husaberg ??

so could this be the replacement hg??

iv looked at some pics and they look the same

cheers kris

Busie, don't you mean graco ?? I have here some airless sprays of that brand, I will check.

Taffy, you must have both filters there, <2002 and >2002, what is the difference between them ?

I want my arse kicking for this one Kris!

I've been saying how a KTM head fits straight on a berg for years and then I go and forget the head gasket is the same!
thanks for the heads up - my memory is just crap!

the new strainer started in 2003 Zaga, is that what you meant?
it is 2mm larger OD
it is 15mm shorter.
= no good

For the 15mm shorter you could make a bung 15mm longer, but for the 2mm larger OD you would need to drill inside the casing... not so practical :(

I have an idea but I'd rather get an off the shelf item. the bungs I'm not unhappy about as they will be stainless steel and have a 17mm bolt head - better than original.

the strainer is work in progress.

my book keeper came in on Tuesday and said that she couldn't see where I'd paid my tax for the year from July. so I came to my computer and found all the money I could from everywhere and paid this 4-figure some to the tax man.

10-seconds - just 10 seconds later she ran in to say "oh dear! how silly of me - my mistake, you HAVE paid". and now I have no money!

she's a natural blond....

draco graco yes :D

I have an 02 and an 03 + strainer, the 02 strainer has a hole in it

had a look it would take 10- 15 min to make an adaptor for the engine end and the other end is easy particularly if you are already making a new bung. draw up a bung and an adapter for the other end . cnc lathe .... easy product to sell

or if you've already got the bits just take out the 02 bung ID to 15.5mm, cut off the engine end of the old strainer and stick it in the engine end of the new strainer. put the bit of the old one in a drill press and file down its od over a 5.8mm length.. bit of loctite 403

if anyone is looking for a replacement ...

wagner or similar airless sprayers also have these type of filters

the 02 strainers OD is 12.1mm but the holes it goes in are 12.4mm

its 95.4mm long but in my 02 cases there is another 8mm of room between the bung and the oil pickup bore

so looking at 103.4mm max length with no washer between the bung and the case

you could add a 5mm washer there and the max length of the strainer could be 108mm

I think I agree with Ned though  ... will do a thread with pics on how to convert it
