Does the TE250 share the KTM EXC250 engine?

Hi all,

I currently have a FE390, and I'm looking for a 2 stroke to add to the stable. I've been looking at the KTM EXC 250, just because they are so easy to find, but I have stumbled across a 2012 Husaberg TE250. I was just wondering, does the 2012 TE250 share the same engine and gearbox as the 2012 KTM EXC 250?

Thanks!

You will love it !!

I'm a little scared about the whole 2 stroke thing, I rode a KTM 300 Six Days a few weeks ago and it tried to kill me! Hopefully the 250 berg will treat me as well as the 390 has :)

heheh :) I think you'll be fine - the 'Berg seems to get really good reviews for handling and motor character, plús 2-stroke power delivery (I mistyped that "devilery" just now, haha) ... the power delivery can be tuned quite a bit! reed valves and whatnot?

My understanding is that you can make a big difference to the power delivery using different springs on the power valve, changing the RPM's at which the PV opens and closes. That's on the KTM, but I'm assuming it's the same on the TE.

Hopefully I'll live to write a review :)

you might want to invest in a g2 throttle cam to reduce your whiskey throttle chances. I bought a 250xc. Put in the yellow power valve spring. Still has way more hit than my 390, But really good to have a 4 and 2 stroke. completely different riding style to each. Still have a lot of respect for the 250, but now I completely flog the clutch to find power on the 390

I've ridden a couple of 2 strokes and the biggest thing for me is the lack of engine braking downhill. I certainly get to the bottom quicker on a 2T than a 4T :)

So the TE has the exact same PV spring setup as the KTM?

I had to get used to the engine breaking kind of surprised me coming from the 4 stroke world ..love this bike personally i love the hit of the red spring .so far I've added a rekluse clutch bills pipe and silencer composite bars and steering stabilizer and map switch .let me tell ya this thing friggin flies :spin:

I rode a 300 exc yesterday that had been tuned down a bit. It was awesome! I'm now wondering if I should get a TE300 instead. I hate making decisions!!

Ive ridden both the only thing different that i can tell is the flywheel might be a little heaver on the berg it seems to tractor better through the woods

in this review the Berg came out on top of course

I think you can't go wrong with either. Only wrong bike to have is no bike.

Over here it's a small bike market for any bike so you jump on whatever is a good deal. 2-stroke 'Bergs are a smallish market everywhere I think :) What's out there now? Good bike for a good price is a great bike!

(But then again if you're having difficulty going for that delish 250 then that's your gut telling you that you really want a 300 ...

What if you flip a coin? Does part of you object the result?)

don't be fooled into thinking the 300 is a quantum leap better was out on the weekend on my Berg TE250 with a newer Beta 300 and a KTM 300 had no trouble staying with those guys mostly staying ahead on fire roads and through the narley stuff ..little more torque the berg 300 has thats about it ....top speed is no different

If I was going to flip a coin then I would be hoping for the 300 :)

But like you said, any bike is better than no bike! I do have the 390 already so at least I have 1 berg :)

I'm no fan of speed, I have no desire to tear down fire trails at 100 kph. My main reason for thinking of the 300 is the torque. 2 reasons:

1. I love hills, long, steep, rutted, horrible hills. Having the torque to lug up, rather then staying on the pipe appeals to me.

2. I'm lazy! When riding the 300 I could happily leave it in a gear or 2 higher than needed, but still blip the throttle to get out of trouble when I came across a log, or a deep rut etc.

Having said that, when it comes to 2 strokes I have only ridden 2, a KTM 200 and a KTM 300, so I have no experience on the 250 at all. Does it lug around well?

If I can negotiate a great price on the 250 I think I'll get it. Then if I feel the need I can buy the 300 conversion kit for about $1200 and turn the TE250 into a TE300 :)

My next concern is fuel range, but I think I'll start another thread about that so this one stays on topic.

The TE250 climbs hils like a bear for me plenty of torque then I'm only 170 with gear on .
i think you might be surprised just how explosive the TE250 is this thing tractors though the woods and uphills with ease ..on top of that the Rekluse clutch is a dream in these things
I'm adding a bills pipe and silencer next week guaranteed i will be rejecting .also the trail tech map with adds a good kick ..I love power i have a FE550 i will not modding this to be a 300 no need

OK, so I had to visit Google to work out what 170lb is in kg :)

I'm about 170 without gear, so not too much difference there. Good to know the 250 handles the hills with ease. OK, I'll get the 250 if the price is right!
