Any ideas as to why my speedo stopped working?
The wheel sensor will sometimes turn the unit on and sometimes it will actually register a speed but usually it just doesn't work at all.

I've checked the gap between the sending unit and the magnet in the rotor and it's all good.
The wire doesn't seem broken as I have checked with a meter and it seems ok.
The battery in the unit itself seems ok and registers 3 volts.

Suggestions?

Hey Kelsow,
Mine has been acting up as well recently. I am going to check the connector up near the speedo and maybe grease it up a bit.

Worth checking:

Ive cracked a couple of the plastic sensors- 1 wire breaks, the other doesnt. makes contact sometimes, other times nothing. Visually looks fine, until you start moving it around.........

You can get new plastic ones dirt cheap, or upgrade to a stainless steel one like the 06 KTM started using

also

there are 2 bare solder joints where the sensor wires are joined to the longer bits down by the caliper.

Sometimes the outer sheath rubs through up by the cable guide/headlight and allows water to drain down into solder joints inside sheath- alters pickup/sensor resistance and makes them play up with erratic function.

I always hear what a dog the 03/04 KTM and Berg speedos are supposed to be, but both my units still function perfectly, all failures have been sensor or sensor wiring related.

Good luck !!
