Hey groovers.

Anyone know if I have to drop oil to replace the kickstart seal. I would think no? and probably is a silly question?

On the older models, no, its just an o ring readily accessable from outside, behind the kick lever.

Sorry all I need some more help. How do you get the bloody seal out???
removed the kickdtart lever and with out removing the shaft i cannot see how to get out

Just replaced mine (03 501). It's a simple "o" ring which I replaced with an oil seal. I removed it by using a very small screwdriver between the shaft and cover. Be careful not to damage the new one when installing it.

I thought I'd rap this post up in case anyone else wants a final.

I bought the new seal for my 04 450. $14AU.

Washed the bike pulled of the kick start lever, got a small screw driver between the shaft and seal.......would not budge. After an our of butchering the f**#g seal I got it out!!

New one went on sweet. I suggest that you use a few washers against the seal and then slip the kickstarter on and use it to knock the washer in. This gets it on square. pull the kickstart off, remove washers, refix the kickstart lever....and bobs an uncle I don't have.

Stupid F**#n seal. Went on a cracker 7 hour woods ride on saturday!! Got to the end and the bloody new seal was leaking!!

I usually use a large, dull, flat bladed screwdriver to push the o-ring all the way into it's groove. Your washer idea is good to get the o-ring started but if I recall, the groove is actually deeper than the thickness of the o-ring so you need to push it all the way in with something.
