Anyone take note that in this months 450 4 stroke shootout Yamaha, KTM, Suzuki ,Honda, and Husqvarna were included but Vor, Sherco, GasGas, and Husaberg were left out since they are basically too small in numbers to be significant. Thats not my opinion but pretty close to what Dirt Bike said. Husaberg, the one that started this entire 4 stroke thing not mattering? BullSh..

I don't think Dirt Bike magazine could run the risk of Husaberg taking first place for a whole year (we know it would of took first or second). This would piss the Japanese manufactuer's off to no end. When I recieved my copy of the magazine I turned to the article and noticed all the bikes that were left out. It now sits on the coffee table collecting dust. I never bothered reading it. Just not worth my time. When it comes time to renew I am going to take the subscription money and donate it to this site. I would much rather read technical posts by Dale, Taffy and a host of others. The value for the dollar here is beyond compare.

Some media do not like to see too many players on the market because it forces them to cover too many manufacturers and products.

Reducing the market to the big 5 (the 4 Japs and KTM) is also political.

I wonder if MXA will do a test on the FC model.

I know that they are both owned by Hi Torque, but, Jody pretty much calls it the way he see's it, although I don't usually agree with him.

What are the good magazines to read?

I find that Cycle News is the best all around magazine for the following reasons:

1. It covers different flavors of 2-wheeled motorsports and it opened my curiosity for most of them (I did not know who Carr was before subscribing to CN)
2. It's a weekly (I love to get my fix every Saturday, sometimes even Friday)
3. The news are FRESH (the "June" issue of RacerX just came out with news from January, for Pete's Sake)
4. No bling, no back-flip, no Mulisha (whatever that is)
5. Their showcases seem to be more independent than the rest
6. They have a great small ads and classifieds section
7. They have a poster in the middle :D
8. And most important: they interview Tortelli every week

Lets hope someone from Dirt Bike reads your post Husabutt! But for now Dirt Bike is using their media power to make the big maker bigger and life difficult for the small maker. On that note, whom is buddy buddy from Husky with the guys at Dirt Bike? Rod Bush, **** Burlesen, Chuck Sun and the likes seem to have gotten small makers publicity in the past. Husaberg seems to need a new PR guy. Hey Taffy, come over here and spread some of your English charm upon those at DB. :D

In my opinion the best magazine is Trail Rider Magazine with Paul Clipper, great tests on bikes and products, great mods and tests (they did a whole story on the mods for a wr250f-02) and the best race reports on the GNCC's and enduros.

WHY? He's a LLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSEEEEERRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!
:D   :p  :)

Oh yea cause he's FRENCH right
Later bud

Speaking of **** Burlesen he was heard say that if he were younger and was thinking about racing his pick would be the FC 450 so that tells us everone is afraid of the Husabergs!

Aus mags seem to give Bergs a fair amount media space when new ones are released or a major comparo is done. In one mag, they even included a Husaberg and left out an XR, saying it wasn't a serious enduro bike.
Come on US, if I was subscribing to DB and that happened to Me, I'd personally tell them to shove their sub up their freckle

Cheers

Mark

"shove their sub up their freckle "

Now that sounds like something Taffy would say

If **** Burleson got on the foe fiddy at night for the 24 hour, it says something about how he liked it. The other hero's were sleeping and letting the mere mortals run laps at night! Somebody just doesn't want to let the Berg shine.

It's all a Japanese and KT****inM conspiracy or another case of the MAN holdin a brother down.

It's all about the advertising dollar. It sucks reading shootouts then finding a two page ad for the wining bike at the end. Or reading in the article about how nice such and such company delivered a bike to them. Motorcycle Consumer News does not take advertizements but unfortunately they mostly cover street bikes. Just my .02

For some reason they never interview Vuillemin. For having worked for him I now know why :(

Hey Bzilla, give Tortellia break. His only purpose this year in Supercross is to work out the bugs on the 450 Suzuki for RC. He was also in contention for the US outdoor title 2 years ago, also a 2 time WORLD CHAMPION!!! I cant wait to see what he will do in this years outdoor season. Dont expect any overall wins, but some podium finishes will be a reality

Sorry to get your panties in a knot. The comment was directed at Da Frog and not Tortelli. I was just having fun with Nick at Tortelli's expense. I know he is a good rider. I see you have not figured out my sarcastic sense of humor. You'll get it sooner or later.

Zilla, I got the knot on the panties figured out. Ijust got out of the Washoe Community Hospital on Mon. I took a hard hit after hitting a ill handling POS KTM 360 while riding the Pine Nutz area, awesome riding. My 96 fe 400 took everything with no problems, the ktm didnt fare so well, as for me , just a punctured lung and shoulder damage that has yet to be diagnosed. Hi Torque Puublishing has always had a BAD case of bias and foot in mouth disease. To get the good reviews you gotta buy alot of advertising space and let them keep the bikes for extended periods of time. Its all about the money. Just one more thing, KTM SUCKS

love it!

let me see now, we got them handling better, the cam followers-sorted-blast :x we've only got to sort out that top right puncture and beef up the shoulder girth and we're there!

I recently ended my subscription to dirt bike magazine. Igot that mag for years. They used to like bergs, but havent really even mentioned them since feb. 2002. I now subscribe to Dirt Rider who did a test on a fe 550 and included the fe450 in their 24 hour test of 8 450s. The bergs are impressive and did very well in the test. More first place votes from testers than honda 450, very friggin cool. Its cool they have the balls to include sherco, tm,husky and berg and not just talk about honda, honda, honda like dirt bike does. Bergs have always been lighter and faster than jap 4-strokes anyway. Now they are reliable and are seeing changes each year. Has to really threaten japs. After dirt rider issues the last 2 months I am going to trade my 01 650 in for 04 or 05 fe550. cant wait.

Daveyberg, Get well soon. By buddy Shaggy had a similar result in Moab this year. I see if you ride Pine Nuts you must be close. Stay tuned for an update on a spring HUSABERG ride to Austin. I guess we can even let you come along if you ride a KT****inM. Heal fast.
ps
Scotts cures a ton of handling problems. no wait thats covers up a ton of handling problems.

HI All,

Well, just read the "450 trail bike shootout" in Dirt Bike. And in concert with all the other comments on this thread, I now remember why I quit reading DB a long time ago.

It says at the end of the article that the reason they didn't include Husaberg's in the shoot out is b/c they are so rare. HMMMMMMMMMMM, let me see, the last desert race I was at I think I saw 1 maybe two Husky's, and one of them belongs to a hot shoe in our club, who is sponsored, and it's a 125cc.

However, the real kicker is in the "what they weigh section". It lists the weights of allot of bikes, including a Cannodale. Talk about rare as hen's teeth. There was ONE cannondale racing District 37 a few years back. And counting me there was at that time, 5 or 6 Husaberg's racing D 37.
