Was quite impressed to see the Husaberg run neck and neck with the Japanese bikes peaking around 45HP. Have come a long way since the old 400's.

I have to wonder how it would have done with the proper jetting? Still it is nice to see the HBG even in DB magazine.

If memory serves though, the xcw's do not come with a spark arrestor nor do they meet the 96db rating for riding on many of our public lands. In fact, in the DR 24 test this year the KTM was docked a lap or two for that reason and then had to be retorfitted with a silencer/spark arrestor.

It would also be nice if the dyno numbers were SAE certified as well.

I don't mean to rain on your thread here at all, just wanted to point out a few things.

At least all were tested on the same dyno, so direct comparisons between bikes are indeed valid.

Only if all atmospheric conditions remained identical, or actual results were corrected with the changing atmospheric conditions. Here see for yourself. The first link is a dyno corretion factor calculator. The second link is to the NOAA site, just plug your city, get the dew point, altimeter setting, and temperature and plug them into the calculator. Play around a bit with it and imagine if you will the dyno runs being done from the morning throughout the day. Just recently here in so cal it was 54 degree's in the morning and 102 during the day. According to the calculator that is a difference in non corrected horsepower of 5% or 2.25 hp. And since the difference in the graph between the Yamaha and the KTM is only 3 hp it would be significant.

Another thing that is interesting is that three of the four tests were done on the FMF dyno and one on PRO CIRCUIT dyno. I know it has nothing to do with anything but that kind of thing just sort of jumps out at me.

Further, as I mentioned before the KTM basically comes with a silencer with allot less restriction. Therefore, it flows more air, and can thus burn more fuel and make more hp. The Yamaha was modified by pulling out one of it's baffles, and it's throttle restrictor removed, and I bet the jetting was also changed as well. Another thing to consider was how many hours each bike had on it.

Your right JohnF3, it is a direct comparison. I just have a very skeptical view of claimed dry weight, and horsepower figures. And as I learned in High School Biology, with any type of scientic project there has to be a strict "control" to weigh all variations against.

It's all good....... Just lazen on this sunny afternoon

05 FC 550 hp?

I wonder if they were put on a dino? (550 that is)
I have ridden the 06 and 07 Fe 550 and can tell that the FC produces more for sure by the seat of the pants test. The guys that rode my FC550 said they could feel more for sure as well. If the 450 is doing 45 the 550 must be around 53 as it has much more power everywhere, maybe even 55 with the carb work and open exaust?
Just wondering does anybody know?

that's truly awesome but (yaaaaaawn!!).

i think horsepower is pretty overrated, especially max hp. people think a bike 'feels fast' but they often actually ride slower with more power. most any modern 450 will spin the rear tire pretty much everywhere in pretty much every gear. at that point, hp is meaningless and trying to get traction becomes more important.

anyway, for a slow spodely old fat guy like me, ANY 450 has way too much power to use. that's why i need a 550. ;)

for those of us that don't know...is this a mag test where you think that they weren't all tested at the same time?

also, what were the BHP and torque figures?

in the past they gave the 450 husey only 40 odd ponies and the yam and honda more like 46 and 48. so what happened to even things (if they have ) out?

regards

Taffy
