Digital speedo 'frozen'

The digital speedo on my '03 went from working fine to 'freezing' on the self test screen while riding today.

Has anybody had this happen and, if so, any idea what the fix is??

Is there some way of 'resetting' the speedo?

At the moment it is stuck on the self test screen with the illumination going, it will not switch itself off. It's like it has crashed at that point...

I have tried disconnecting the supply wire and the pickup sensor wire but neither makes any difference ( apart from the light going out of course).

I also tried connecting up the switch unit from my '04 but the speedo did not respond to any of those buttons either.

If anybody has any ideas please let me know.... I hope I don't need to buy a new one!!

Cheers

Jerry

Try disconnecting the bar mounted switch from the speedo unit by unplugging the its cable at its connector. From memory it has its own pigtail behind the number plate. It may be that there is some shorting in the switch and/or its cable. Wires can be damaged by tywrapping too tight to the bars, pinched or damage from falls, faulty assembly at the factory, etc. I can't recall if there is an independent reset button or a button press set combination to perform a "hard reset" on the units.

Good luck,

Barry

The speedo has an internal Lithium battery. Try removing it for a couple of minutes. Its accessed from the back of the speedo.

Doesn't sound good though. :(
