Destroyed my auto decompression or the starter?

Hi all,

My 04 fs650 was running great this morning (and it still does when it's running) but it doesn't want to start. The starter refuses to turn it over without a bit of manual decompression, and the motor refuses to start when that's pulled in Anyway.

This coming from a bike that would start in half a second when cold.

So I'm down to kicking it fully compressed or roll starting, both of which seem to work fine. ( but $%&@ my leg hurts!) There's no weird noise anywhere, still has plenty of power. Any advice before I open it up?

Hi orangeberg, just pulled the rocker cover and there was 0 tension on the auto decompression. The spring that wraps around the shaft has broken the long tail bit so it isn't gripping anything. I'm in Brisbane, do you have the spring I could buy? Otherwise I'll be waiting for ages for a replacement from England haha.
