What is involved?

I have not yet seen explicitly what this means even though I googled it and searched this forum. I saw a mention of a throttle stop and that was about it.

Beyond a straight through silencer (which I don't think is what I want, I like how quiet the bike is), what else is involved?

Thanks

I just started to slightly improve the output.
The first step I did upon receiving the motorcycle: get rid of the EPS and other "green" components.
The second step is to implement the best maps to the CDI.
The third step I just started a week ago: get a full system, some tuned maps and open the airbox.

I got a 2nd CDI unit with the maps before actually installing the full system or opening the airbox - nothing! Absolutely no improvement whatsoever. A EXC 450 (KTM) I built for a friend is stronger then my FS570 with the tuned CDI.
Conclusion: the stock exhaust system is WAAAAAAAYYYYYYY too restrictive.

Installed the full system. Took a test ride, with the original CDI unit.
WOW - it is alive :)
Finally some of the engine's potential is showing through.

Now once I open the airbox and get the aggressive CDI installed - it will be a lot better.

Just looking at the sectional pic in the user's manual, I would agree that the stock silencer is probably very restrictive.

Your results are not particularly surprising - as is the case on most IC engines, the intake, combustion chamber and the exhaust all make a system that must be considered as a whole, not individually. Some systems respond to just one change because the other parts are already optimum.

So, thanks for the info. I am not looking to increase the power of my bike - it seems it has plenty for what I do with it, and I don't want to make the exhaust louder. I run the bike on the 'traction' mapping all the time and it does fine. The only place I would want more power would be on sand or with a snowbike conversion, and I have an idea that I might want an Aprilia RXV for those purposes instead.

I was mostly looking for the 'official' "derestriction" process as mentioned in the user manual. I was just interested in what it was.

I am wondering why you bother with a second ECU/CDI unit? Why not just use the stock one and overwrite one of the mappings?
