Delorto issues after AF cleaning...

Just got this 03 FS650e a couple weeks ago and its been running great. No issues... until I cleaned the air filter and reoiled it. Now when the engine is hot, it has a flat spot just off idle. Killed it a few times leaving a light. Sux when you have to kick it... Anyway, everywhere else its still great. Idle, etc, everywhere BUT just off idle. Cold its fine, starts the same. Although, it was a bastage getting it started after reinstalling the clean filter. I think I flooded it.

It actaully acted the same way if I started the bike with the filter off. So I'm thinking its lean just off idle. It tried richening the Pilot jet screw up to one full turn out, but still had the issue. I think I'm adjusting the wrong thing.

Been searching, but still haven't found the fix. Please help! Thanks in advace.

Hi

Maybe when you reoiled the filter you didn't let it dry and the oil went in to the frame, boot and then in to the pilot circuit air intake in the belmouth cloging it.

Maybe that's your problem ??? Open and clean it and you will finf out

It's like you we're there! I did not realize I had to let it dry. I'm used to working on cars. Just getting into bikes.

I returned the pj back to its original position, pulled the carb and cleaned it with carb cleaner. Started and idled fine. Too late to ride. I'll try her tomorrow.

Thanks Zaga!

Well rode it today and still have the same problem. Should I adjust the needle up one notch?

Greg

Taffy thought that I might have over oiled it so I took it off and rod it. Same issue. Tried leaning out the idle circuit and still did it.

What meters the fuel after idle??

Greg

i beleive from 1/8-1/4 throttle is the needle jet and from 1/4-3/4 the actual needle itself moniters the fuel, what position is the needle in? you could try to rais or lower it a notch and see if it makes a change

i thought by 03 the fcr was the stock carb? shows how much i know.....good luck

Actually figured out the issue thanks to Berger who actually lives pretty close to me AND knows the previous owner and this bike! He recommended checking the stator since this seemed to happen suddenly, is inconsistent and only happens after the engine is good and hot.

Checked the black to green resistance and it checked out but the black to red showed that the circuit was open. Luckily I already ordered a rewound one from taffy!

When I get the stator ill update all on the result.

Greg

Oops... Not the stator. I had the meter on too low of a setting for the higher resistance. How embarrassing

Checking the tappet gap next.

Greg

Well. The tappets seemed really loose. Almost a full turn to bottom them out. Back all of the off 1/6th turn and tightened them up. Putting it back together with a new plug.

Greg

Valve tappet adjustment and new plug seems to have fixed it. I was actually able to start it with the e-start twice!

Taffy called it!

Thanks,
Greg

Starting to do it again. I also don't think I have enough gap on the tappets. Using the kick start when it's hot I don't have the compression I did when cold. :cuss:

Only just noticed this on my last ride.

WTF??

I would start with cleaning the carb again.
I had the same problems after reoiling of air filter.

Also check if fuel valve in carb is closing and opening fine, mine was blocking and it fas running with smaller amount of gas.

Thanks, kli. I'll tear it down all the way and clean it really good this time. Where is the fuel valve?

It's called float valve in manual, see attached document.
