Dell Ortos 2001-2003. Starting sorted

hi Taffy,
if still valid, I am interested in these "spruce up kit" I have recently bought a fs 650e 2002 running prettz good, tune it but e-start doesn't working. I looked on ebay, so once kit installed, all issues with e-kick will be solved?

there are many things not quite right here:

firstly, the 'spruce up' kit is NOT the 'easy start' kit! the easy start kit costs a lot more.

secondly, you need to do many, many things to get to this point.
starter repair kit
08 cam
auto decomp
our modified spring
iridium plug
beefy starter
CTZ7s battery
DVSK
change the ignition timing mark
do the ignition timing correctly
set the correct valve clearances which many people cannot do.
then you have the wear in the engine. wear to: rocker shafts, tappet pads cupped, cam follower bearings shagged out, inlet valves with terrible tuliping, deformed valve seats.

Hi Taffy,
got it that's not so easy and lot of steps has to be taken and still not guarantee that will be working.
I am having FS650e 2002 and I am not professional. So my another question is what about Dell Orto replacement by Keihin Karb fully and not just replace and play with kit (HUSABERG - DELL ORTO CARB -Taffy's Easy Start Spruce up kit- For Electric Start | eBay).

What you will recommend to me?

that isn't very fair Frank. do you mean your workmanship might not be good enough at the end of this or that your ability to make the correct judgements at each step are in doubt?

I've been quite open about it: I think that the Dell orto can now be rescued from the 'naughty boy's corner'.

now, after Lineaweaver I was the first to use the Keihin FCR and called it for what it was, a major step forwards over the dell orto. why, because nobody here has the skills to sort the dell orto out and I was very used to the Keihin FCR. I'd just come from the WR400 (2000) and knew the carb inside out.

so why shouldn't I be believed?

Ok Taffy, thanks for response. So KEIHIN is not the option which will solve my e-kick problems, right.

So you would recommend to take every step you mentioned in previous message? Any other option? I mean on ebay you are having several kits and I am not sure which and what to buy first. So please can you advise me?

I can't see anything wrong with this but then I wouldn't would I or I would have corrected any mistakes before now.

we also sell a choke cable that uses the decomp lever instead.
we also sell a kick start sledge mod that makes kicking easier.
we mount the solenoid infield under the rubber sock which looks a lot nicer.
we blank off the kickstart decomp hole and the one at the front right of the rocker cover with a pair of bolts we do (ready to go).

we have a video on our facebook page going up tioday I hope. it uses too much space at present so it has yet to be sorted.

Thanks Taffy. Regarding CTZ7s battery, can you recommend brand and model please? I checked your eshop and you are not sending batteries outside UK and I found here only baterries with CCA 130 and less. Nothing similar to yours cca 158.

In advance, would be very rude to ask you for links for each part you are recommending to replace? So I can make a shopping list from

for kickstarting this is a great mod - the sledge mod = Taffmeisters - Husaberg, KTM, Husqvarna, Gas Gas, dirt bikes - servicing, tuning, rebuilds, parts

I think this just about covers it. things like the CFBs, the valves and seats, tappet pads, rocker shafts etc: are up to you.
