well i have a 40mm dell in my hands and i'm about to have a play pretty soon. i have drawn up some needle designs and will be having them machined up one at a time. i'll be making the needle straight a little fatter and working on the tip as well. i ran a K11 7 years ago and it was quick however it was only half the story coz it was only half the needle!

will let you all know....

two points.....

firstly, i've been studying the atomisers and i can see the wear now and its not in the tube at all! its in the top end. there is a shoulder some 3mm down and on the old atomisers it has worn away completely!

this tells me that too little needle is in contact at the top of the tube and therefore a small contact area is prone to more wear.

i'm also looking for any spare slides anyone can let me have as either to borrow or for keeps. given or sold to me. don't fancy £35 per slide and i do need 2-3 of them so if you have a spare slide kicking around please keep me in mind!

While we are talking Dell's, on my 600 I never could get it to idle properly. A nearly new Dell was sourced from ebay and when compared to the old carb the idle screw hole was drilled and tapped a bit off the mark causing the idle screw to not push the slide up enough. This issue gave me fits for years as the idle screw could be screwed in all the way even without the spring and it would just barely idle.

i'm starting out with some needls from the keihin '90' series which are the most convenient to work with. the first thing i can tell you is that the profile of the K51 is the same as a G _ _ in the 428 keihin series.

suprising some would say! but then the first thing you learn is that even though they both span a 39/40mm gap, the needle is way longer into the atomiser of the keihin. so that isn't so much a 'G' taper on the K51, rather it's A to B over a short distance and that G becomes the taper.
