Hi All Its Been A While.
Finally Got A Spare Afternoon Yesterday To Find Out Why The 400 Wont Start,Went Over Everything Again.
Reset The Valves Again. Still Not Having Any Of It.
Took The Rocker Cover Out And Found The Exaust Cam Lobe Completely Worn With Hotspots Where All The Hardening Has Gone. :cry: The Roller On The Arm Is Worn The Same Way. Should The Inlet And Exhaust Rollers Look Different?. :?:
Looks As Though The Cam Bearing Has Tried To Spin As Well.

Now My Questions Is....'If This Was Your Bike' Would You Rebuild The Top End Or Do A Complete Overhaul Of The Motor?
Would You Replace The Cam With A Different Type-I.E Go For A Lineweaver One?
My Dad Isnt Look For Lots Of Horsepower But If There Is One That Gives More Low End Grunt And Adds A Little More Top With Out Eating The Rocker Bearings Or Valves Then He Wont Complain!.
Would Rebuild It To 470 Or Lineweavers 450?
Last Leading Question How Much Would This Cost Roughly?

the 53 and 55 cam are OEM cams and add a lot of grunt. they have since been surpassed by the '000' cam and the '08' both of which are kind to the valve train i believe.

i found the cam to let me lug the engine.

i would just rebuild the top end. look for tuliped valves. get another cam do the bearings and leave the rest alone. the cam will do it for you. if it helps-try getting a set of downpipes off the 501/550/650 from ebay. that adds all botoom end.

dont muck about do it right once pull the motor down ,where has all the metal gone from the cam,rollers and spining cam bearing - thats right down in the rest of the motor causeing more damage or about to- take it all apart and check the pump and oil ways carefully, check all bearings
 
there won't be any loose metal around IMHO!

i think that there'll be no metal and the filters will have caught anything down there.

Ok,I'm Going To Order A Load Of Parts For The Top End.
Which Cam Do You Recomend Getting?
Which Chain? The New '05 One Or Regina?
When The Head Is Off I'll Take Both Covers Off And Give It A Good Wash Out And Check The Clutch And Sprag While I'm There.
Just On The Look Out For A Cheap FCR And MX Silencer+650 Headers. :wink:
 
go for the new 000 which we believe to be the old 08 part. you gotta understand that husaberg went to new part numbers back two years ago.

you should read all my race reports over this season especially as i have modified the bike aften and each race says how each change went.

go with the new chain and buy the new style tensioner blade whilst you're there. we don't really know how the new DID chain compares to the old chain but you won't get regina chain we think pretty soon as regina have officially announced that they are about to stop all production of chains.

Rebuild The Top End Or Do A Complete Overhaul?

Hi kez,

Just ripped my 501 -02 apart due to a cam with lost hardening. This caused a lot of metal in the oil/filters. All this metal has damaged almost all bearings in the engine. Therefor I recommend You to do a complete overhaul. The question to put is: What has the metal caused on the way to the filters?

Anyone that knows what causes the cam to loose the hardening?

my berg suffered from cam and main bearing failure after my rocker bearing went. i wanted the motor stripped at the time but 'berg would only pay for a new cam, rocker and rocker bearings.

so then they had to pay for new cam bearings, and a full split and new mains in the end anyway(about 5 months later).

if their is junk in you roil screen, there is more in your motor, or it has already damaged bearings most likely. i woul dplay it safe.

also, how many hours are on the bike????it may be time to put new bearings in anyway.

Woohoo,Got It All Back Together Today,Once The Carb Was Full Of Fuel It Started On The 3 Attempt On The Button And 2nd Off The Kick. A Little Rattly For My Liking Though :? .
Went For A Run Seemed Ok,Pulling Harder Than It Used To.....I Think?
Just Needs A Bit Of Fine Tuning,Started To Queit Down After A 20 Min Run.
After 45 Though I Ended Up With An ASBO From The Police :evil: :evil: :evil:
