CW Thread Revisited

Hello all,
Regarding the CW thread:
I am a bit puzzled regarding several comments directed toward me. Have I not supported Husaberg? Have I not given more than I have received?

It has been stated that I am negative and unsupportive. Others elude that "my negative comments" regarding the CW evaluation do more damage than good.

Negative or positive:
I can assure each and every one of you that unless clearly specified my comments are based on hard facts and first hand knowledge as opposed to that of simple speculation.

I applaud BMG as Husaberg has never looked so good here in the states.
Motorcycles and parts are readily available as is open communication with key BMG people.

I was and still am quite upset regarding the CW turn of events. You see, I had been down that road before. Knowing what I know I had advised against turning Moto Journalists loose with an unattended motorcycle. I even offered my services well in advance of the bike being delivered to CW. To be accused of whining for stating my obvious displeasure with the final outcome came as quite a shock.

In any event and in my humble opinion BMG is comprised of good men and women whom are doing a great job of getting the product to market.

My relationship with Husaberg / BMG is such that in exchange for my continued technical support my facility (Lineaweaver Research and Development) will remain as it has for the past decade a recognized Husaberg service outlet and parts dealer. Based on such I feel as if I am making an honest attempt to being part of the solution as opposed to that of any problem.

I may not always agree with BMG, however, it is they who have stepped up to the plate and for that I am very grateful. Just the same and as with site members and their opinions of me, I stilll reserve the right to voice my opinion.

Now, How may I help you?

Your passion and product knowledge are unparalleled. You clearly are a giver and not a taker. Once everyone takes a deep breath and is over the shock from the outcome of the comparison test I'm sure there will be some rethinking on cetain issues.

The CW test was a monumental let down and the passion runs deep here as evidenced by the thread. It will soon be time to move on and look forward. As Jedi said "there will be other tests".

Hi husabutt,
Thank you for the kind words.
In my opinion the time to move on is now.
Both Cycle News and City Bike (SF Bay Area) have shown an interest in doing a long term 650 evaluation. :D

Sincerely,
Dale

Jedi,
It will be my pleasure. I am currently wrapping up a 550 project. Once complete I will get started.

Dale

Hey Dale -

Anyone who knows you and your history with Husaberg will understand your reasons for being so upset with the CW situation. I think it's safe to say you've bled more for Husaberg than anyone else on this site.

Keep up the great work and the candid honesty. Your opionions carry the unspoken thoughts of the silent masses.

Hey Josh -

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Don't you know man is NOT supposed to learn from past mistakes??? Now I'm all giddy with excitement!

A special thanks to the both of you!

Dale:

Have you ever considered doing motor "packages"?

Perhaps:

Stage one:Rebuilt, Blueprinted, part updates and a Lineaweaver cam.

Stage two: Add port and polish head and carb mod.

Stage three: Add big bore kit and reworked starter motor.

Something like but not limited to the above.

It would also be great to hand over a Stage three Lineaweaver Berg for testing when the magazines do their end of model year "modified" bike tests. I would love it!

Lets give'um a Stage three Fe550e punched out to a 580 and see if they can handle it!

That would be awesome and I would love to see the results, I am sure the results would prove to be great.

I indeed hope this is something that happens If anything will make husaberg get a awesome review this will definatly do the trick!

I often wondered how much of a surprise people would get having the chance to ride my quad before and after modifications Dale had done to the motor, carb and exhaust. I for one will say it was well worth it and would do it again without any hesitstion.

In stock form the quad was slightly faster than a modified Yamaha raptor, (camshaft and exhaust)Now I eat them for lunch.

What is the 550 project?

This is more of what I want to hear.

Powercell

You have been vocal and demanding of a better product and information. Considering your history with owning Husabergs, the fact that you have bought an 04 650 speaks very loudly in my mind.

I, too would like to hear details of Dale's 550 project.

I can feel the mo growing, Dale and Jedi are twistin' the throttle!!

keep the rubber side down

Sometimes you need to just be a duck and let the rain roll off your back!
Dale just let meek whine. I have never bought anything because of a bias rag! As a matter of fact it might make me look closer if it’s a poor review! I hope Berg never goes mainstream like KTM or the big four.

Hi Dale,

I didn't for some reason realize that you were a service center for the Berg's. I'll keep that in mind for the future.

And I think it's great that you and Jedi will be working together on the 650 project. It's sure to be a WINNER!!

It's too bad that your sevices were not taken advantage of before the CW test, but hey, the milk has been spilt, no use crying, right? In the past Cycle News have had the most complimentary, and I feel honest, tests of Berg's. So, if one comes to them sorted by you, I'm sure it will be a stunner!!! And it would be interesting to see DR & DB doing a test with said Berg 650. Just sorted mind you, unlike the "other" bikes which usually have several modifications done to them.

An offer: The suspension tuner that I use is one of the best around. His name is Steve Searcy and is the owner of CLEAN racing. All of the people that I know of who have had him do their suspension are VERY satisfied. He has experience from top off-road, to supercross. And, two years ago, he was tuning the suspension for Paul Carpenter when he won the Four Stroke national title. He can be reached @ 714-434-9201. If you should call feel free to use my name Dale Covington as a reff. Steve and I have a great working relationship.

And just so there is no mistake, anytime I see that you have made a post I always check it out. Yours are always with the best interest in mind for Berg and the people who ride them.

Thanks again for your continued support!!

Hi all,
Thank you for your interest, thoughts and suggestions.

Husabutt,
Regarding engine packages:
I am afraid I would quickly become bored if I was required to build the same engine configurations day in and day out. I seem to thrive on challenge, variety and the unknown. My original arrangement with Husaberg Sweden was a perfect fit as in addition to running a race program (including ongoing R&D) I also provided technical and warranty support (dealer and end user). FYI: Prior to the Don Knight fiasco Husaberg USA and I were indeed working toward an OEM approved "H" Line of performance products.

Tm-enduro,
The "550 project" is simply a race bike that I was contracted to build.

DaleEO,
Regarding Suspension:
For major projects I most often handle the suspension needs in house. The primary reason for this is it allows me to work personally with the client. (I only do complete bikes). Once the suspension has been optimized I run the components on a damper dynamometer and record the graphs for future reference.
