is it bad for my transmission to change gears with out using the clutch and does any one know how much it would cost to get my transmission rebuilt in austrailia....?

cheers doug

I hope you didn't just answer your first question. On a
two stroke mx bike I often shift without the clutch.
They are much cheaper and easier to rebuild. It does
add to the wear on the engagement dogs and other
components.

Hi,

don`t worry......the Berg stands` the abuse shifting without clutch.......however I recomend not shifting under full load either!!!

On the track i always shift up without clutch, and shift down with clutch.....but the reason for the "clutch-use downshifting" is to take away the load from the suspension when entering turns!!!......I had no problem with my transmission, so far!!

I find I rarely use the clutch changing up or down in the dirt, probably more due to laziness. If you snap the throttle closed the instant you chage it slides straight in. If you are trying to get max acceleration or in a powerslide I'd use it as you can get away with less throttle closure. On bitumen it seems easier on everything to use it.
