crank float?

can anyone tell me the correct crank float on the 07 and 08 bergs. I want to check some new bikes by taking off the ignition cover and measuring the float against correct specs.

Also how are people checking valve clearance on the 07 and 08 bergs. Are you using feeler guages or some much of a turn? How much of a turn?

thanks Taffy, the Doc is in deed a great source of information.

The reason I am looking is that I am about to jump into a decision ....wait for 09 or grab an 08.

I have watched the threads for some time about the main bearing issue. The Doc is a good summary. Clearly most don't have any problems, but it sounds like some do and fixing the problem and aligning and fitting things is time consuming. If I recall you said you had no problems in this area with your own bike.

Is it rare for these problems or just a matter of time?

Taffy, what is the bottom line?

i'm afraid to say that there are problems abound.....

i have an '04 650 here with the right main split radially. it has ball races both sides. the pressure to get the bearings in and out of the housings and nto get the cranks into the bearings is just too much!!!

i really don't have the optimum answer except to say that you should go with swedish steel for now as thats the best we know.

regards

Taffy
