I have a 2000 fc600.I'm changing the water pump seals right know.I noticed that the breather on top of the valve cover just has a hose that plumbs into the air plenum of the frame. This seems odd that this goes back too the intake unfiltered. There is very very little oil from this going in the frame this i would take too mean that there isn't alot of blowby yet.Guess i'll finally get too the question.

Would plugging the hole in the frame then putting like a small filter off the valve cover have any benefits.THanks Dan

ive heard of plugging the frame hole, and then getting alonger hose form the breather and running it back to the chain as a chain oiler....sound slike a good idea to me

fc600 quad

I run the fc engine in my quad and i have the same setup but my breather runs by hose to my aircleaner box.I am in the process of changing from the box to a pod system and will be replacing the hose to the box for a crank case filter.Im not to sure about the frame work but i am sure it will better than the standard set up.

I modified my breather so that it comes up over the frame on the left hand side and then back down behind the RH side of the radiator with a K&N breather filter on it I found that the filter stays reasonably clean behind the radiator. The biggest advantage is not fouling the plug with oil when the bike is upside down after crashing. I then used the hole in the frame for a hot start.

This is definitely a problem with these bikes. The accepted fix seems to be to do what you said.

If you leave it connected to the airbox and you fall past horizontal on the left side for gods sake pick the bike up as quick as possible - even before checking for broken bones and missing flesh!

A couple of monthes ago I did this while on my own with the breather connected and was lucky to get it going again. It barely ran, I kept it revving and it blew LOTS of smoke for a few minutes untill it cleared. As soon as I get a suitable filter the breather will go back to fresh air.

crankcase breather mod.

I would say that would be a good idea to change that while you are into it.I changed mine and it does come in handy when the bike is upside down or on its side and you have to restart.Once this is changed no oil will run into the airbox and then into the carb. thus making the bike easier to start and it won`t smoke like a tire fire.Would be a good idea.

Hello!
Just want to ad on some bad experience! Turned upside down and got stuck a bit. Filled the whole carb and the cylinder with about a liter of motor oil! Had to carry it out of the woods! Have put a long whose that goes up up over the tank and down again. Its a Fe 400. Its an easy fix so why risc anything!

Think there was some links on the tech site where they had pictures on different ways to solve it.
