Counter Balancer timing

I spilt the cases on my 2001 fc550 to clean up and check out everything after a camshaft bearing let go.Fortunetly, nothing else was affected. Crank bearings and con rod feel perfect after about 150 hrs.Decided to replace balancer bearing while it's apart. My question is the manual says when assembling crank into side case to line up the mark on the balancer gear with the mark on the drive shaft gear.I cant find any mark on the balancer gear.I know that when I was taking it apart, with the clutch basket removed and cam chain off I had the crank at tdc and the balancer felt like it was at bdc...Anybody have any input on this....Thanks, Keith

Whilst you've got it apart I really would recomend changing atleast the main bearings. I rebuilt mine last year at 110 hours and thought the mains were fine so put it back together then at 121 hours the right side main started rumbling so had do strip it all over again, also did the big ends whilst in there for the second time.
