Hello all,

Just a tip when updating this part. When I splitted my engine I found the single bearing counter balancer and decided, according the Owner's Doc, to replace it with update part # 210 243-01. This part seems to be discontinued and I received part # 800.30.057.100, balancer model 2006.
The little nasty thing is that with the update part included is the 0,2 mm shim and with the newer counter balancer you must remember to order this separately. The old single bearing balancer has a 3 mm shim and cannot be used with the newer balancer.
To save time I tought to go to a local bearing shop and took a look at the shim's size in the parts manual: 800.30.081.020 PASSSCHEIBE 30X35X0,20 THRUST WASHER 31X36X0,20. In German we have a different size than in English????? :?
Probably I'll have to buy both and check which one fits best or to order OEM and wait another week.

Best regards,
Stephan

I made one out of a WP shock shim, you need a bucket of water and a die grinder it took a while but was quicker than a week

the journal is 30mm dead. so i guess one is going to be a little looser than the other.

I think the '01 and early '02 engines used a counter balancer that had a slightly different tooth pitch or angle than later models. I remember reading on this forum that someone had replaced an early single bearing counter balancer with a later style double bearing counter balancer and an awful whining noise resulted due to the different pitches. Unfortunately to update an early engine to the later style you would need the counter balancer, balancer shaft, drive gear, crank gear, clutch basket, freewheel (if electric start) and some other bits. Download a copy of the 2002 parts manual & you can compare all the different parts.

yes but mogly he is on about a shim not a balancer or spacer.

but stephan said that he got the complete 2006 balancer.so, it has a new tooth pitch.as far as I know 2002 is a transition year for tooth pitchs thus there are both new and old gears avaliable that year as per the manual. If his bike has old gears then there will be a matching problem.

You always have to check the tooth's pitch with these years to be 100%. For the 2001 and 2002 engines you'll find both the single and double bearing balancers. For both pitches there is or was an upgrade kit, a complete double bearing balancer with the shim, my post actually is about, included. Just a matter of checking what you need. The point is that I wasn't able to purchase this kit for my 2002 engine and received the 2006 balancer, no pitch problem for me. But the shim is not included as is with the kit.
I've been looking in bearing shops for this shim but only if I order 1000 pieces they'll order. I didn't had any alternative than to order OEM and wait again a week. To be sure I ordered the shim by it's 2002 and 2006 model year number.
I do not know about the 2001 engines with the different pitch, do they have to order a new axle, maybe someone can clarify?

Best regards,
Stephan
