hows it, Im 200bls getting my suspension sorted on my fe570.. Question is.. if i get the correct spring for the shock to be in me sag parameters do i change the ones in my forks too? They seem quite plush n soak up everything i throw at them so i would of thought not?

Re: correst springs for weight

Spring balance front and rear is important, so for best results you should make equal changes to both ends, even though it feels good now.

Re: correst springs for weight

A revalve wouldn't be a bad idea either, a friend of mine weighs about 230 with gear on and had his sprung and valved front and rear, he can't believe the difference. If you stiffen the rear it will sit up and load the front up and feel out of whack, I weigh 200 with gear so I get away with some preload and clicker work.

Re: correst springs for weight

When sitting on the bike, about +/- 80% of your weight is on the rear, so forks are affected, but not as much by you as the back.

Get the correct sag set at the rear with a spring, and then test the front. Use a zip tie to check travel on a fork leg. Bottoming occasionally, say twice a ride, is OK as it means you are using it all.

everyone has a different feel for the right set-up
I'm 150lbs
010 FE 570
stock front springs 18 clicks com/ 19 reb 90mm air chamber works for me
rear I am using a 69 spring (stock is 72) 17com/ 22reb
In the desert whoops, rocks and sand bike works great
in the mountains I will go one step light spring rate on the front and change comp/reb clickers

I almost scrape in with the stock spring , i was about 5 mm over on when detucting bike - rider sag.. I read a post on here that said if your over 180 lbs or more you will have to change the srping. i noticed that the bike will deflect very hard when hitting unseen rocks they lay under leaves this time of the year here, they send you flying and usually on an angle..thanks a few times to the high speed setting on my dampner none ended rubber side up  .. My ktm never seem to react like this, all i had done with that was increase oil wt to a w7.5 and ran a 90mm air gap which seem to help alot. And the sag was the same where i was just out so i ran the stock spring.. dont get me wrong the berg handles great in most areas, i would agree with a revalve as some hard hits suck, and seems like the oil just dosnt have time to gets through and do its job mabe?

it helps that I'm a z grade rider, my bike was a demo model so I cant be sure if I'm running the stock spring in the shock, sag is close enough to 110mm it feels just right, haven't been spat off guess I need to go harder :D

We race in the same class bro~! haha na sweet i like your theroy, i only have 6hrs on it so ill let it all settle in for a while n see how it is.. thnks heaps for ur healp!

I checked out the Teknik suspension website and they have a parts finder system you can use. I bought the springs they suggested and everything came up perfect. Static and rider sag were spot on front and rear. I also put in there compression valving kits and I can safley say its the best Ive ever felt the bike, imho.

Check it out.

sweet cheers bluerg, that is a good site.. how much did it cost ya all up? how is the riding in kal btw? you done much riding around southern cross? cheers for ur help

Hindenburg,

The front springs were $225
The rear spring was $200 but I would go for the T style progressive rate spring that they do for your 570. Its a tappered wire spring which I couldnt get because they dont do one heavy enough for me and my '07. If my shock layed over more like yours or I lost some bloody weight (not going to happen in a hurry)I would be fine.

The fork compression valve kit was $250 plus about $70 for fork oil. I fitted it all my self and found it really easy if you download the manual off this site and follow the instructions that come with the kit.

I haven't done the shock valve kit yet but I found the stock valving fine so far. Took a little playing with the clickers to make it comfortable, but I got there. Will let you know how the new kit it is when I do it.

Riding in Kal? I love it. There is some really good trails around here that can take you for miles with out seeing anyone. Its all single trail with a bit of everything thrown at you. Most times when we go out we do around 160k's with a fuel stop at Coolgardie or someone meets us somewhere.

Where abouts are you? If your heading this way let me know. I will take you out and show you around.

Cheers,

Bluerg

Just re-sealed my forks so thought I may as well check the rear ---does the following seem right ??

02 FE501 - novice enduro / mx practice tracks & green laning.

Checked the static sag - the preload was 0 so re set to 5mm as in manual.
Sag now 50mm so increased the preload until 35mm was reached. This gave a preload of 10mm which seems to be within the margins ??
Then checked the rider sag and this is now 91mm. Spot on by the book.

Went out for a ride - felt very different - quite liked it but seemed quite bouncy at the back (solid) but this might be because it's been too soft for a long time and the groung is solid like rock at the moment in UK ?

The spring on the damper is the one it came with - 76-95/260.
It also came with a spare 71-90/269.

Neither of these are as the manual - 76/250 or 80/250 or 84/250 and the way the code is written is diff ie 00-00/00 whereas in the manuel its 00/00.

FYI I'm 5'8 86kg with kit on.

Ok, just weighed in at roughly 230lbs with gear. My question is, for the average rider, non racer, but one who wants the bike to work well, can I get away with settings or do you think I really need to change the springs? I'm hoping that I can just play with settings and sag and get it dialed in enough to enjoy and have it be "correct" if not perfect.

Thoughts? I ride mainly trails...single track woods...steep rocky canyons and a little bit of more open stuff...planing to DS and just want an all-around solid setup.

I'm hoping someone out there is about my weight and has found some success with the stock suspension.

2011 FE 570S

Thanks

I am 6'6" 260# wet.

I had my suspension redone. They replaced the springs. That much extra weight you have to do the springs, both front and rear. I am not a suspension expert - I barely understand how it works much less how to set it up, but 230 is a good 50 pounds over the target weight for the springs that come with the bike and I doubt any amount of tweaking the settings, even revalving is going to be able to compensate for springs that are too light.
