Cooling Fan Killing the Battery

I have a 06 FE550 and just installed the factory cooling fan on the bike. I have an EarthX lithium battery and it was completely dead after first ride with new fan. Anyone have any experience with adding the cooling fan? Did you have to upgrade stator?

Thanks

You should not have a problem under most riding conditions. Unless you are doing a lot of slow technical single track, with lots of stopping and restarts I would look for a problem. Battery completely charged before the ride? Good charge voltage? There have been problems with cold solder joints on stators with some of those bikes.

Battery was starting bike fine at beginning of ride, some slow single track but nothing too bad. I am going to recharge fully and try again. Where would I test stator output and what voltage would I be looking for?

Thanks

Happened to me too.Also a FE 550 2006.
Was doing very slow riding with fan and lights on.
Battery was charged before with an optimate.
After 15 minutes it was completely flat.
Recharging with the optimate doesn't fix it, I think the battery is wasted.Only one year old, and always on the optimate 3 when not driven.
Any recommendations for a new optimate suitable battery?
