Considering 2001 550fe. What can you tell me about it??

I am looking at purchasing a 2001 550fe one owner with extremely low miles and would appreciate any feedback you have on the bike. It will be for trail riding only on tighter mountain trails. I am looking for a very maneuverable bike. Aside from that I would like it to be reliable as I live in a town without a husaberg dealer and just don't want to be constantly fiddling with it. I am 5'10 and 150# and have ridden all my life but just getting back into trail riding.

I think it would be a 501. So, if the owner says it's a 550, I'd be suspicious of whatever they say

No such thing as an 01 FE550. Yes, it will require fiddling with, but you have come to the right place.

Have you seen this?: http://www.husaberg.org/wiki/index.php? ... nd_changes ... Should give some hints / a POV to start from.

Regarding the bike itself, it is glorious for the purpose. I've briefly ridden an '05 450 on some trails ... when it rolled off the asphalt and onto the gravel and trails, everything clicks and you immediately feel the depth of the design of the machine. Everything makes sense in how it acts and moves - very stable yet very manouverable, lots of feedback, suspension is a bit less fluid-feeling than on my DR-Z but functionally better - it happily munches anything you throw at it. And the power is nothing to sneeze at, but still very controllable. I've only ridden motorcycles since last summer - I briefly rode a 550 the other day and the power response was sane and sensible but still very relentless and fun.

you're right but he probably has a FC/x550 with all the road kit fitted on it, registered etc.
