Hi
My bike doesn't start. I suspect the compression is to low. Does anybody know what the compression values are? My plan is to measure trough the sparkplug hole. Do i have to disconnect the decompression device? If so, is it straight forward or any problems doing that?

my personal thought is to just make sure your valves are adjusted correctly and then also the handlebar decomp.
it is frustrating to measure the comp on an engine with an internal decompression device.

Thanks!

I will try to adjust the valves. How do i adjust the handlebar comp? I tried with "start gas" and it didn't start, wouldn't it start even though the valves arent completly right? I bought it broken so i haven't tried it yet, but the kick seems to easy to kick down

since it is a model with the sem stator, you should start at the beginning and ck to see if you have spark; and if you have an ohm meter, ck the resistance of the stator red-blk (3000 ohms) and blk-grn (165).
if its ok, and you see a strong spark, while the plug is out, pull the tank and the two small covers over the valve adjusters, remove the ignition cover on the right and using a t handle and socket, spin the engine clockwise (a ratchet will drive you crazy) until the intakes open then close, continue to turn until the piston comes up to top there is a timing mark on the flywheel that will line up with the screw hole around 12:00 iirc. if unsure, use a non-pencil (inside joke) in the spark plug hole carefully to watch when the piston stops going up and starts down.
loosen the lock nuts and turn in the screw to lightly bottom and back out 1/6 of a turn (one flat on the nut). while holding the screw, tighten the nut securely. while doing the exhausts, make sure the manual decomp cable has play, and is not hitting the rocker.
put it back together

the handlebar decomp should have play and not be touching the valve rocker. if it is way tight, adjust the cable so that is has a small amount of play.
it would probably help if you could give a bit of info about what has been done by you or the previous owner.

Sorry for late answers, long days at work.

I bought this bike knowing it was broken, so i have litle info on what happend. The previous owner said it ran poorer and poorer. I bought the bike because i eager to learn and i have very very litle experience with a screwdriver :)

What i have done so far is going over the electrics, guided in another thread, since i had no spark. "Sparks" rewound my stator and i now got spark. Then i noticed my plug wasn't wet so i cleaned the carburretor. I thought that fixed the problem, but today i found out that the plug isn't getting wet now either. Maybe your advice on adjusting the valves wil help. I did understand most of your tip, but i find the "finding tdc" part tricky. Can i just turn the flywheel say with my hands to get the piston moving?

I realy appreciate the help i am getting, and i admire how helpfull people are on this forum helping an amateur like me.

Have you downloaded the manual? Links in my signature :) (Might want to get the '05-'08 manual just in case, but follow the '03 in case there's a difference.)

maybe if your last name is either ironman or schwartzenegger.
as you turn the flywheel, it will suddenly jump forward and you need to keep it from doing that. if using a ratchet handle, it gets away from you.

Get your point! I will try to adjust the valves tomorrow afternoon the way us normal humans have to do it :)

I have now adjusted my valves(hope i did it right). The valves were very thight, maybe 1 round too much. I tried again with the spark plug inserted to see if it got wet, but i didn't. Have i maybe adjusted wrong or could it be something else?

when you have finished adjusting the valves by following all the steps, you should do a wiggle test to feel whether or not you have clearance. you should feel a definite very small up and down movement of the rocker.
if you did not adjust at top dead center after the intakes opened and closed (there are two tdc) , you will have way too much clearance in the exhaust valves and your decompression devices will not work causing it to be very hard to kick and impossible to elec start.
assuming you have the dellorto carb, you should be aware of several problems it commonly presents. pulling fuel in is usually not a problem, it's usually pulling too much. make sure the slide (idle height) is not set too high and review the bottom part of the carb section of the doc Main Page - Owner's Doc

I have adjusted it at the right tdc now. I tested again and my plug doesn't seem to get wet. Pulled off my carb(dellorto) today and saw that it was wet on the way in to the intakes. I have recently cleaned the carb, but i wil check your document and go over it again.
