comparing LX2 to 000/08

i pulled the LX2 yesterday and sat the oem 650 cam next to it. the oem cam has .5mm more peak lift and way more duration around peak lift. i'm rather suprised that peak lift wasn't even equalled even though this might be less important than duration around the peak figures. the LX2 is simply more waisted in this area.

i wonder what an 000/08 with the flanks built to concave instead of convex would be like?

Taffy,

If you're going to do a comparison, you really need to compare the 08 with the LX1 camshaft which is more of a direct replacement than the LX2. The LX2 was designed to be more akin to the 01/55/53 generation type stuff. Remember, the LX1 is the camshaft designed for best power but, due to the overlap is not suitable for use with enduro (read baffled) exhausts. The LX2 is slightly milder. I've owned both the lx1 and lx2 and I think there are even dyno charts in my gallery of the lx1 v 08 camshafts.

Cheers,
Simon

the LX2 needed a straight through pipe too simon, to cure a low speed hesitancy.

so are you saying the LX2 is a cleaned up '53' or '55' cam and that the LX1 is a cleaned up 000/08 cam?

i've just added a few bits to 'camshafts' in the tuning area of the doc.

On the 650 it works fine, Taffy, but as you say, it behaves differently on the 400. However, the LX1 just doesn't work with the baffled enduro exhaust system (unless you're at half to full throttle all the time and then it's lovely :D ).

Performance wise the LX2 is similar to the 55/53 and the LX1 to the 08. I haven't tested the 00.

All the best,
Simon

i've tested the 53 and the LX2 back-to-back and the difference initially was hard to fathom but then i began to realise that the engine had more torque with the lineaweaver jobbie!

hello all,

I have tried in the past the x2 on my 650 2004,I have tried now the KTM cam ,where you must remove the end of the cam.

On the dyno the power comes out faster but has less top end than the 08,The cam I find is very good.

Is there anybody who has the lift and duration of the 08 ,for intake and exhaust???

Greetings Madero
