cold forks

right just give my bike a bit of a check over after being in the shed over the cold couple of weeks and the forks are really stiff and if you put the front brake on and pull them up then try to compress them they almost lock , they were fine when i rode it in the snow 2 weeks ago . any ideas ?

How old is your fork oil, how cold was the shed? If the oil contains water, it can freeze and prevent normal operation.

got to the bottom of it , i crashed last time out at the end of the day and it twisted the insides ,so slackend clamps and a couple of pumps later they were as good as new .

I know it's a pain in the ar$e but when you tighten the clamps, use a torque wrench. It's really important you don't overtighten the bottom clamp especially or they will bind.
