Sorry to those who are tired of this topic re-surfacing.

However, I picked up an 02 Fe400e for the right price. Then I burned out the starter motor last season. Read the fantastic older threads and docs (thanks to those responsible). So I picked up a newer R6 off ebay because all the 99's were in rough shape. Took the tail piece off the stock starter motor and swapped it out with the newer R6. Then instead of drilling the two new holes in the starter motor, I have a CNC mill and made a new bracket just like the original but .400" wider to accomodate the longer motor. It works awesome.

I was wondering if anyone out there is still dealing with this issue and would be interested in getting one of these brackets? All the leg work is done and if anyone is interested in this path I would be more than willing to hook them up.
