Clutch Squeek Noise

The odd time very rare I have noticed a 'screech' or 'Squeek' noise, when starting off from a stop. This noise will last for half of a second or less.

I heard this only when I started off in 2nd gear or sometimes 1st gear starts.

2005 650 with roughly 46.5 hours and 2220 km/s

What is this noise? Ive been told that this bike has all updates done to it.

I have been told by my mechanic ( Ritchie @ Valley Force ) that it is to do with the
oil or lack there of between the clutch plates. Because we have 650's we dont use the clutch as much as riders with 450 or 550's. We just keep twisting if we need to keep going instead of "fanning" or "feathering" the clutch to keep the engine going if it bogs down. As the clutch is not used as often, the oil gets flung out from between the plates and they dry out a bit. I use my clutch a bit more and my bike rarely makes a screach.
Hope this helps.

I'm using recommended oil and the recommended amount roughly Id say probably 930mL of oil.

I read in Motocross Action Mag, that clutches don't even need oil, that is why Ducati runs a dry clutch, but because our bikes are Dirt bikes they need oil to grab up the dirt.

anyone found a clever place to drill a hole or 6 to get more oil in there?

I see the new KTM engines have the oil pump sending some to the clutch

I put "dimples" in my clucth steels, will see if thats any good.

dry clutches are made of different material than wet clutches. you cant use dry clutch plates in a wet clutch system and vice versa. at least thats how it is in the big truck industry.

also, from what i read, its a berg "quirk". i use motul 300V factory line 15w50 (23 dollars per litre!) and i still get it when taking on any faster than other traffic takes off from a light.

Clutch sqeek noise

I have had the same problem on the odd occation with squeeking with the clutch in the past. This has happened during take off with reasonable rpm on as you let it out.

A guy told me once, it was the clutch steels, and they were most proberbly distorted slightly from over heating.

I dont tend to pop or fan the clutch much especially with the 550 as it has all the power and torque down low , and if I need to, I do so from a low rpm and I dont get the sqeek noise.
