clutch squeal

I recall on the site something about this, but don't remember what the answer was. On my 08 450 the other day a sqelsh noise came from the motor and it seemed as if it had something to do with the clutch. What causes this noise and why does it happen on bergs only?

Hi, i've tried all sorts of oils and some seem to work better than others to prevent the clutch squeal, but inevitabily it always comes back. the only cure i have found is to regularly swap the clutch plates around so you take the inner ones and put them to the outer etc. This works for a while but eventually it will probably come back, as its been said before its down to lubrication, although most bikes run an oil bathed clutches and don't seem to suffer? does any one know of a non genuine clutch plates for the 08's?

I just bought a 2008 FE450E and haven’t put a hard ride on it yet, so I don’t know if mine makes the same noise.
My 2003 ktm525 made the noise you described. Non synthetic oil helps but drilling .250â€Â

My 08 FE550 also has the same squeal. Just once in a while though - not all the time. I've been told it is due to the outer most plates lacking lubrication.

that is interesting. It has only happened once and because I recall this mentioned on this site I did not worry. It never used to happen on pre hydrolec clutch bergs, and it may have something to do with the lack of holes in the pressure plate. I have some older bike berg pressure plates, so I will compare when I look in the clutch. If the holes fix the problem why would not the factory put holes in unless it might cause another problem.

On cable clutches you need some play to allow for clutch expansion, who is this heat expansion handled by hydrolic clutches.... how do they work?

Guys,

I have this from time to time on my 08 FE550. Don't think it's anything to be to concerned about, seems to happen after riding hard with a lot of shifting in the tight stuff. I put it down to the clutch getting a bit hot; dosn't seem to affect performance or anything like that.

I'm no mechanic by any means, so guys like Taffy and such might have more insight on this issue.

i asked the question about my 07 fs650e.

the basic answer i got was its a Husaberg thing.

i only get it on harder launches. and i dont ever notice it when shifting gears.

Ya, its 'berg thing'. The outer plate agianst the pressure plate is a driven, steel plate. Once you've slipped the clutch enough to cause an abrasion between the two surfaces, it will squeal on hard, slow engagements. RIding our super technical mountain rides, we do it all the time. Its a big mind meld for new guys I ride, with. They think the bike is going to blow up, so they keep a safe distance away..behind me LOL

In short, its nothing to worry about.
