Clutch not working

After a complete rebuild of my FE501 '03 the engine is running fine again but the clutch doesn't seem to work. After the first start-up it worked but no good. Then I went out for a short drive to see if the engine was OK and the clutch stopped working. Looking through the oil fill cap you can see that the clutch handle is working fine. What could have gone wrong?
Thanks

On some models there is a ball bearing spacer that sits on the end of the clutch rod. It's very easy to loose or forget.

That ball bearing spacer is also the hardened wear surface for the clutch push rod. If you forgot or misplaced the ball on installation you will usually get some clutch disengagement that fails to no clutch disengagement as the end of the pushrod wears away rapidly.
So...........if you did forget to install the ball you will most likely need a new clutch pushrod as well, as the end of your will be chewed.

Thanks for the reply's!
I'm sure I didn't put a ball bearing in... The only question is; do I need one? I will get the rod out tomorrow, see if it's chewed up.
Taffy; eeehh yes. I changed a lot of parts; camshaft, timing chain, big-end, mains, cylinder, piston, balancer, all other bearings. Basically it's new. A lot of money but worth it. Any advice on the needles in my Dell Ortho?

Thanks!

Problem solved. A 2003 doesn't have a ball bearing ball at the end of the push rod, a needle bearing does the work, and that was all in place and OK. I was thinking I misplaced the 4 thicker plates but also that was OK. A tip for all the do it selvers out there, don't over tighten the nut on the cluch basket. 30 NM is 30 NM and an air wrench is not the solution.... Now it works fine.
