Is this a common problem that is easy to fix? Is it something I can disassemble and clean or do I have to buy a new master cylinder?

If you have a 9.5mm Magura the Moose PN is 1132-0912 and is ~ $30 USD https://www.denniskirk.com/moose/clutch-master-cylinder-repair-kit-1132-0912.p384730.prd/384730.sku Install and bleed up through the bottom at the slave. Pumping will be very difficult is not impossible.
