clutch cover seals

Just removed the seals from my clutch cover (waterpump, shift, kick seals) and noticed they all seem to be oil seals but with metal outer ring/casing.
My questions is, do they have to have the metal casings?? Anyone know?

cheers

they seem to be better with them. just a bit. i would check the gearchange in the bush as well. it can get really loose. also, i find 100% of bikes in the UK run a fat 'O' ring in the kickstart and not a seal.

well every dealer has them!

they are like the sidecover water jacket 'O' ring but larger. it HAS to be 3mm or it leaks. so next time you call a dealer you're in.

OBTW, i ordered 3mm (18 ID and 24OD) and got 18/23.5) bugger weeps slightly....
