Clutch actuation problems!

Pls can anyone advise me on problems im having with my clutch, i have a 2003 501fe..
I cannot seem to get the clutch lever to work properly, there seems to be air getting into the system with the clutch working at the start of a ride and going to spongy to not working at all by the end of a ride. The clutch on my bike has never been great but seems worse after i changed the slave cylinder after the old one developed a crack around the bleed nipple. I should point out at this point that i bought a second hand slave cylinder and the piston is a slightly larger dia than the old one!
I tried bleeding the clutch off the bike with a clamp over the piston, but this just seemed to push the piston out at a n angle and quirt the fluid everywhere.
Also it looks to me that there should be a ball bearing between the end of the piston and the push rod as the piston would bottom on the bearing face, i tried fixing this with a coulpe of washers but to no avail!

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks..

With the piston of the slave cylinder being larger than the one you replaced, it takes more fluid volume to move the piston the same distance. With the master cylinder being the same, you have the problem. If the piston of the slave cylinder was smaller than the one you replaced, you wouldn't have this problem. But it would be somewhat harder to move the clutch lever. :bounce:

Hi mate. I am having problem with my clutch working at beginning of ride but 20-30 min into ride i end up will a sloppy lever and i can not use clutch. If i let it sit for 10 or so min it comes back but then goes again after riding for another ten. I have not changed anything on it. This problem has just turned up. Have you put your finger on the cause of this problem?
