This is where the WORCS race I did last year was. Only this time ... it was a much harder loop. Crazy sand climbs, a tunnel with tires to go over, part track, steep uphill and downhill sections, off-camber hillsides, and high-speed cross-grain. Oh ... and lots and lots of deep soft sand.
They start us in rows of A, B, and C with a dead engine. I'm lookin at the A's in front of us and realizing that us B's have twice the amount of riders on the line. I tell myself whether I like it or not ... I gotta get off the line fast cuz I don't want to be in the middle/end of the pack when all these riders hit the sand after the long hillclimb start.
As I'm waiting for the flag to drop for us B's, I notice that I'm shaking, lol. How the heck am I gonna get a good start when my whole body ... including my head is shaking??? I can't see the f'n flag very well cuz my god dang head is bouncin around and I can't focus on the flag!!!
So I've got my leg up on the kick starter and start to feel some discomfort to say the least ... next thing I know I'm like 5th off the line!!!!! I even ended up smokin Jenny Kouba (who was right next to me altho I didn't know who she was til after the race) off the line. But I soon lost the fantastic start cuz it put us right to the track. So I rolled the jumps, lol.
On more than a few of the hill climbs, there were people and bikes everywhere ... it looked like someone opened a pack of skittles and just emptied them on all these climbs and sidehills, lol. You need to understand riding in the dez ... any kinda color really stands out. I came up to one long steep sandy hill climb and could see at least 7 bikes all crashed and people off to the sides of there bikes. All I saw was yellow, blue, red, orange, and green!!!
They even had us ride through a tunnel with tires to hop over at the end of it. It was soo much fun. I'm glad they didn't put a through the logs and stuff though ... that woulda been tougher. But they did run us through some wicked wood chip piles. That was insane!!!!
I ended up getting I think 5 laps in total and 2nd place. Jenny Kouba (who's been riding for like 15+ years) came in ahead of me ... but NEVER lapped me!!!! I think in the WORCS race last year she placed 3 in Women's B's. Guess I'm getting a little closer to some of the fast chicks!!
I really interested in how I did overall. At the WORCS race I finished dead last ... I think this year is going to be better. The course was even a lot harder than what they ran us through for the WORCS race out there.
