Chrome Flakes in Microfilter

Just done my first oil change on 2002 model FE400 (300 hours) and found chrome flakes on the microfilter.
Searched the forum and results seem to imply rocker arm bearings?

Can anyone offer any other advice or diagnosis?

Thanks

that's the longest first oil change I've ever heard of (300hrs) did you have anything on the mag plug?

LOL My first change, I'm hoping it was done before this by others!

So how long have I got? I can't hear any knocking and it runs really well. I've only just bought the bike so would like to get a few rides in before full rebuild (yikes!). What other warning signs are there?

Cheers

Popeye,

Taffy has way more experience at this than I do, and it well could be mains.

However, I would pull the rocker box and check the rocker arm followers for play and roughness. You did well by searching the forums to find your answer.

Check there first and if you find worn rocker followers than you have found it and you didn't have to pull the motor and take it apart. It's an easy job to do. And the parts you will get were updated in 2003.

I concur with Dale. Chrome flakes on an 02 is most likely rocker follower bearing material. You are well overdue for the updated rockers.
