hello people
hoping you can help.
bit of back ground info:
time before last when i was using the the bike it started great ran fine, stopped for five mins when to start and it just clicked as if battery was flat. Managed to bump her then rest of the day it was great, every time i turned it off it would fire no problem at all.
when i was out yesterday pulled bike out the van hit the start button and fired up great, fan fine for 15mins turned it off. Tried to restart and nothing just a click, bumped it into life again and was hoping it would be fine as it was the last time it was out. but no, ride along and it would lose power and try and stall and if it did stall no power to turn it over. came up with the idea battery was not holding any charge so swapped it with a one from my mates ktm. fired up straight away ran fine for 15mins and started to stall again but would turn over great but not fire, leave it for few mins and it would spin over and fire. run it for another 5 mins and same again.........
got it back home to try and repair. mutlimeter over the battery when running and it was 12.2volts, after a bit reading up on the stator etc followed advice of starting bike up with stator disconnected and take readings of the outputs.
so tried that but it will spin over but not fire (no FI light etc) plug stator ( plug with 3 yellow wires) back in and fires fine.
with it running on idle and still plugged in tried to put point of the meter through the yellow wire to get a reading, + from the meter in the yellow wire and - on the battery with meter set to AC (also tried on DC) and the reading i was getting was between 1-2 volts on all of the 3 wires.
did a resistance test between the three wires and there all the same.
am guessing stator is not working at all but looking for advice if i am testing it correctly or not. and were to look next.
thanks for taking time to read and help
