Chain tension??

Hi all, i did a quick search on the forum and didn't find much.

Have a 2011 570FE and trying to set my chain tension. seems obvious/simple...but if i go with the instructions from the manual...which says to put the bike on a stand and push the chain up from the bottom and measure 8-10MM just behind the slider...IT JUST SEEMS WAY TO TIGHT when i sit on the bike and load it up.

anyone else have advice or another way of doing it. I tried removing the bottom bolt holding in the rear shock to get the CS sprocket and hinge to the point where the chain tension woudl be greatest. but pretty sure i have to pull the entire shock to do that, and don't want to right now.

any help/insight greatly appreciated

For any bike, set the tension with the rear axle, swingarm pivot and countershaft sprocket in line.

Rear axle higher or lower and the chain is looser, unless you have a coaxial sprocket like a Bimota or BMW 450.

I can understand what you mean but here's what I do. I skip putting it on the stand because, yes, it's too tight then. I leave it on the side stand then check it with the same distance behind the slider. It works for me and I can get a lot of miles on the same set of sprockets and chain so I figure I'm doing something right. Plus I'd rather have it a tad loose than too tight.
