CDI with TPS system

I have bought a keihin FCR41mm with TPS from ebay.

I bought it for my FE400 which was previously equiped with a Dell orto phm38
This dell orto does not have TPS, so my CDI does not have a TPS 'connector' I think?

Should I buy a 'Husaberg certified TPS CDI unit' or can I modify my current CDI?
Is it also possible to buy a KTM TPS box?

See this ebay ad:

Can I buy that for my husaberg? Or doesn't the SEM ignition support TPS?

the FCR 41 may be too big for the 400 , i would think the FCR 39 would be more suited .

you can run that carb without the TPS connected , if you started spending money on various
electrical items it will not be cheap .

Hi ElSnorro,

Don't worry about the TPS it isn't realy needed all it does is exaggerate the ignition timing at the lower rpm range, and can put unwanted stress on the motor at low rpm.
As dale said you might give away a bit of fuel consumption at the bottom end and that's about all.
I run my 550 04 with the TPS disconnected.

Sparks,
What does the TPS actually do? Some folks say it advances the timing at low RPM. If I wanted to soften the power at low RPM, I would normally ****** the timing a bit. I have yet to see anything where a graph has been done to illustrate the ignition timing (comparing "with TPS" to "without TPS").

Well it came from a 450 yamaha. So I gues with a smaller main jet it will be fine?

Re: RE: Re: CDI with TPS system

Hi Neil,

It is there basically to give more precise ignition setting at the end of the rpm range an fade out further up the rev range and on larger throttle opening.
But if you are running at low rpm and suddenly give a large throttle input then the ignition timing may not suit the rpm this can put greater stress on the big end and we all know where that leads.
I think somebody a while ago posted a photo of the big end pin this showed fatigue of to much load at a to lower rpm.
It is more successful with fuel injection where you have to run a TPS.

Hi ElSnorro,

Can you tell us what the jets are that it came with and the needle code.
