Bike starts first kick with choke. When the engine warms up,I stop the engine. If I kick it right away ,it start but if I leave it 20 second it starts ONLY with the chock on.Carb disassembled, cleaned but has the standard jets and settings so nothing improved.

Any suggestions?
thank you wery much!

Could you tell us what year and model, and give us your jetting numbers?

Could be:

  • bad valve adjustment
    bad jetting
bad spark (dead plug or SEM stator is tired)
    all of the above

FE 400E 2001 Standard jetting, valve adjusted ,spark plug seems ok but I planned to change it anyway.

try going through the carb setting again. get the idle right, then adjust the air screw. you'll find that this, when set just right, helps to start the bike!

also be aware that the atomiser and needle wear out in no time on the dell orto carb. so it may be time to buy new.

If all else checks out I would go one size larger on the pilot jet. There is a trade off though. As there is no hot start device on your Dellorto carb increasing the the pilot jet size will have an affect on the ability to easily start when very hot as the motor then craves a much leaner mixture when fully warmed. If this is in fact a jetting issue then it seems you are overly lean on the pilot circuit and a small pilot jet size increase should not have a detremental affect on the ability to start hot. Take it one size larger at a time. You can easily reach a point where hot starting will then become difficult.
