My '95 FE501 supermoto has a 38mm Dellorto carb, I've noticed that newer models have a 40mm carb. I'm wondering if the 40mm will bolt right on, or require a new intake manifold? Also what kind of power gain can I expect?

the 40mm should bolt straight on as the 40 is a bored out 38!

you can expect a very slight improvement at the higher revs.

i always look at tuning as a gas line (not petrol-the other stuff) with loads of valves along the way. each valve being undone does speed the gas a little but the secret is to find the valve that is half closed?

is it the size of your ports? is it the size of the valves? is it the camshaft?

the only way to really know is if someone here has already done it.

i went on a dyno prior to christmas and made some changes. the biggest advancement my little 400 made was when i put the 550 downpipes on!!!!

38 to 40 Carb Swap

I suspect "down pipes" are what Yanks call Head pipes or headers?
If so do the circa '95 600 head pipes fit the 501?
Enquiring minds want to know.....

Down pipes??

Hi, BergRyder....
That's them!! My '98 parts manual shows two different part numbers sets for right and left headpipes, not same for 501 and 600. Also, pre-'97 headpipes may not be same as '97 or later. Best to check with Dan at Motoxotica or your nearest Husaberg dealer to make sure.

The 501 will indeed benefit from the PHM 40.

Regarding Husaberg:
I most often use 1.25" had pipes.
