2002 Husaberg FE650 - Gas flow out of small overflow tube for dellorto carb. Carb has been dismantled, cleaned and put back together and still getting the same problem.

Any ideas please? Bike has over 100 hrs on it.

thanks.

Either the needle valve is worn, sticking, has some crap in it or your float level needs adjusting.
They take ages to wear out so it's probably not that.
Mine does it occassionally too. I just adjusted the float level a bit lower by bending the metal tabs.

Coops

Same thing happen to me about 2 month ago on my 02. It was the float valve.
My bike was losing gas out the small overflow in the back of the carb.

Thanks guys. The float valve does get stuck in the up position sometimes which doesn't let gas into the float bowl and hence my bike won't start. I have to manually unstick it sometimes and then things are fine. Perhaps what is happening now is that its getting stuck in the down position therefore binding when it should move up when the float bowl fills up and doesn't close?

Are there any solutions to this other than replacing the float valve? Lubricant?

I have cleaned the carb thoroughly.

You might consider buying one of those

And even one of these:

I would replace the valve. If you don't have a local Husaberg dealer its pretty common part. I got one at Motoxotica it had a husky part #. The weblink in the post above is great shop.

Yah, probably a good idea to rebuild but i don't want to wait a month for the parts to find out its something else so....

..the symptoms now are the bike starts and runs as usual but after getting on the gas by riding it around for a few minutes it backfires, coughs and splutters and then dies. It doesn't seem to be leaking gas anymore out of the small overflow tube. Could this be an electronic problem - stator? I have changed the sparkplug.

thanks for the help.

Also, is there any recommended dealers in the pacific northwest who may have these parts in stock?

HusaPemby, sounds like the symptoms I had. I monkeyed around with the carb as well, sent it to our resident expert Dale Lineaweaver, and it helped but did not fix my stalling issues. It even was ridiculous at times. For instance I could not ride in technical stuff like rocks, I would stall every 10 seconds, and if I fell on the right side, the bike would be a pain to restart. I had to have the idle on high and it did not help of course, as it made the bike hotter.

My SEM was just rewound by Sparks and it started on the second kick, even with a carb that was just cleaned and reinstalled (therefore not primed). Although I did not ride around with the bike yet, I can guarantee you it is running 10 times better, and all I did was running the engine in my garage (I would have gone for a little ride if it was plated).

So get it rewound, it's an order.

Also you might want to rebuild the carb, it's not going to be time wasted, if it was never done.
