while'st dealing with my oil-in-the-airbox-cause-i-flipped-upside-down-issue i've noticed my carb is mounted at an angle... is this how it should be ????

Radar,
what year bike? dell orto or keihin carb? which way is it angled?
carbs can be angled with slight lean backwards and will run fine.{as on a lot of road machines} if it is angled left or right..this is wrong. dangle a screwdriver in front of carb mouth. this will give you a plumbline to show you vertical.

some riders angle the carb 5d ACW so as to make the fuel feed further from the exhausy. other than that it really ought to be vertical.

lookng at it again if i straighten it up it'll be touching the exhaust... i'm not the smartest guy in the world , but i think that would be a bad idea... o5 450 fe just in case somebody has an idea.....

I run mine slightly tilted for the reasons you have described with no ill effects. I have never had an issue with the fuel line junction getting too hot but it is always in the back of my mind. The fuel inlet can be changed over to the other side of the carb at considerable expense. A small heat shield and a little exhaust pipe bending would probably be a easier modification.

I think I know exactly of which you speak. Is it the fuel inlet hitting the pipe? On my '06 FE450, the exhaust has a shooting marble sized divot in the pipe so as to clear the fuel inlet of the carb. Your '05 has a different pipe I believe. Also note that a 550 or 650 will have the carb placed a bit further up, the engine is taller. I wouldn't feel too bad about placing a divot in your pipe to clear the carb if needed. It is helpful to get a clearance between the pipe and carb anyhow, to minimize heat transfer.
