Hey folks,
A small group of us from the East coast are heading to Moab the 1st week of May for 10 days of riding. Curently at sea level. Any suggestions regarding tweaking / adjusting the carb for the elevation change? Riding a new to me 05 FE550. I assume it is currently stock set up but not sure. Had no reason to look at it as it currently runs great.

Any thoughts?

I didnt have to rejet, just turn the idle up alittle. The bikes didnt like starting unless the idle was brought up a touch.

Moab is about 4000' elevation. I would suggest going down one size main jet and pilot jet, and be prepared to drop the needle down one position if the jets aren't enough. The four stroke isn't as finiky as a two stroke, you can often get away with being a bit rich. I go to Moab from my home at 6000', and go up one size in main jet when I do.

buzzard is about there i'd say. you probably need a 160 maximum for moab. so check this by dropping the nut under the floatbowl and then using a 6mm long - 1/4" drive to undo the MJ.

get the MJ right and you don't have to touch the needle.

more importantly, get a kouba T screwdriver and make a point of adjusting the pilot screw to get the pick up right. well worth it.

Taffy

I do have the thumb wheel pilot screw. I will have to check the main jet now that I know it is relatively easy to get at.
Thanks for the info guys.
