Can't Start 2006 650fe

I just replaced a cheap Chinese battery with a Yuasa battery and everything was fine as it started right up and I was able to ride the bike home for about 5 miles from the bike shop.

Stopped by my friends house to show him the bike. Went to restart the bike and I heard the starter "click" once but it couldn't seem to get anything going. Tried multiple times and it did the same.

Also note that when it originally started at the shop, I just twisted the gas once and then hit the starter.

Then tried to jump start it in both first and second gear with the help of 2 friends and it just wouldn't fire. Also tried kick starting and nothing.

I checked and it had plenty of gas and the petcocks were open.

Also note the temperature was about 16C so no need for the choke.

Any ideas would be most appreciated as I'm at a loss and really want to ride it.

"Just a click"?
Could be a bad connection at the battery or ground strap, even a defective battery.
Why it won't start is another issue. Your probably not going to start a 650 bump starting it.

A little additional info please. How long have you owned the bike etc..

The bike only has 750 miles on it.

When I say click, I'm talking about the typical sound that is made when the starter
button is pressed. Its more of a thump vs click when I think about it.

The battery is literally brand new.

So the motor spins over fine with the starter?
How long have you owned the bike? First Husaberg?

Berger, yes it is my 1st Husaberg.

When I hit the starter it seems to try to turn over once and it won't
turn over anymore.

Can't start continued...

I left the bike overnight and was hoping that maybe I just flooded it yesterday afternoon
and that today it would just start right up.

The bike had no juice at all.

I tried all the starting tips that Berger mentioned.

So the big mystery seems to be what could cause a new battery to fail to have enough
power to turn the bike over after it had been just running for 20 minutes.

Just to recap, after i rode it for 20 turned it off for 5 minutes and then tried to
restart and it just didn't have enough oomph to crank over.

Are there any fuses that can blow and simply cause the bike to have no power?

I think the first thing I would do would be to disconnect your battery and try another one.Use any known good 12v battery you have from your lawn tractor another bike or whatever and just connect it properly to the bikes leads with jumper cables.Start the bike and check the charge rate on your voltmeter. If it charges you may have had a faulty or not properly inialized new battery fitted...it happens sometimes. If it does not charge check your voltage regulator and wiring connections. .If it wont start and shows the same symtoms as you have now you should look at your starter switch,,starter motor, wiring in that order.
my ,02 hope this helps

Thanks for the tips NSMAN.

The battery was brand new so... Lets say it wasn't initialized properly, what can be done to correct that?

You can try and recharge the battery and then load test it...if it fails replace the battery.

A load test is when you apply a load or "strain " on a battery similair to when you hit the start button. There is a meter that almost every shop has can apply this load test and show the results visually.

Best bet might be to take it back to the shop you bought the battery from and ask them "what's up".
