Can a Pumper Dellorto carb fit a Husaberg?

I got this brand new shiny carb from eBay:

Really the same exact carb as this:

http://www.motorcyclecarbs.com/PHM_W19.cfm

Berger and I thought it could work on my 2001 FE501e but we're having doubts now.

It seems to be made to fit a twin Ducati 750, which has two carbs, one for the right (the PHM40ND) and one for the left (PHM40NS). D = Destra, S = Sinistra (that's right and left in Italian, for those who only eat Italian).

The jets are different, so is the needle but that can be fixed of course, except that there is one jet more than the regular Berg carb (PHM40ZS) inside of the float bowl.

There also seems to be a pumper on that carb, which could be a great advantage over the PHM40ZS. The issue here is that the extra bulky pump cover would rub against the intake air boot, making it harder to install the carb.

That's part #70 on the chart below:

http://www.motorcyclecarbs.com/dellorto ... Mframe.htm

Also one part that was missing is #93 from the same chart. The adapter on the PHM40ZS does not screw on top as on the ND, it is bolted on it, making it a bit trickier to make the carb fit, and I don't know if the air boot would fit nicely without too much manipulation.

My question is this: could the pumper PHM40N (S or D) Dellorto carbs be made to work on the earlier Bergs via rejetting and fiddling with the air boot, so that 1-these bikes could use a pumper carb (without the even trickier FCR upgrade) and 2-an alternative for the harder to find ZS can be used.

In the meantime, I am going to keep this carb for a couple weeks and let you give me some advice on what I should do with it: resell it on eBay and try to break even (or even try to make a profit) or try to use it on my 2001 FE501e?

It's actually a Moto Guzzi carb.

It seems to also fit some Guzzi 1100 sport, indeed. But looking at the size of the jets (132 at the main), I really think it was mean to feed a 375cc cylinder and not a 600cc, but, hey, what do I know :(

Now it seems that the Germans have worked on adapting this carb on the LC4:

Yes, it's in German.

the carb can be made to work but i can't fathom for the life of me why TFIH you bought it? you need a #93 and unfortunately it isn't designed to have any such rubber boot fitted to it. it is a belmouth and has a thin lip on the circumference.

then you add the fact that malossi, the tuners of dell orto carbs REMOVE THE APJ and that also lineweaver has continually reminded one and all that there is no need for the APJ.

so what do you think you are benefitting from?

stick it back in ebay and get an FCR where we can help you.

Taffy

An FCR is a pumper carb as well. Besides the issue with the intake boot, what are the other issues?

we disconnect the APJ on keihins but the point is that the keihin is a far better carb. whereas you are proposing swopping a dell orto for another dell orto neither of which would require an APJ. so where is the benefit?

i'm tryng to be helpful here but i guess you can tell i'm exasperated as well!

are we all going to spend weeks trying to help you set up another carb?

regards

Taffy

Once again I'm jumping in on someone else's topic, but would someone enter the model and rough jetting of the applicable Keihin carb for these mid-90's big bergs. :?

Taffy, the purpose is to replace a used carb with a new carb which also has a pump.

They are also a lot less expensive to get than the FCRs. Fitting an FCR on a bike that runs on a Dellorto is obviously more complicated than fitting the same carb.

You don't have to spend weeks doing anything.

Am assuming your attraction to this carb is the addition of an accelerator pump. Can tell you that I have have 2 of these carbs on my Duc 900SS and they work fine when dialed in. Before riding Husabergs I had early 90's Husqvarna thumpers and they used this carb as well. Don't remember exactly what model of Dellorto was on my 610 (didn't keep it very long), but the 350 had a 34MM Dellorto pumper. That 350 was the easiest starting & cleanest running 4 stroke I have ever owned. Was minimally effected by altitude changes as well. So yes it could be made to work. When I took the Dellorto flat slide off my Berg 400 I tried to mount the 34 pumper from my Husky and the accelerator pump not only hit the air boot, but also hit the frame spigot where the boot mounted. This was the old frame (96) so maybe there is more clearance on a 01 up? If it won't fit, can always do as Taffy says and E Bay it again. Be sure to type Ducati and Guzzi in the description to catch those guys.

Thanks for the answer.

Answer is yes it could but work is needed and then what for?

So I guess I will resell it.
