Anyone know the difference between the 570 camshaft and the 450 camshaft?

Husaberg 450 cam part#78036010333
Husaberg 570 cam part#81736010033

Since my bike is a 520 I am thinking it may like more cam (move the HP up in the range).

Hi Joe,

If you are thinking of replacing the cam you would better off replacing it with a LX1 or LX2, better profile and power delivery, I had a LX2 in my 550 works wonders, due to the cams profile it also get rid of your engine sounding like a bag of spanners.
Have a word with Taffy if you are interested he stocks them.

I seriously doubt that the cams for the older Berg engines will work in the new engines.

Well I may just buy a 570 cam and put it in the 520 (450 with overbore). I hate to just "waste" money but may be the simplest thing to do. Probably do it in March, I'll post what I find out.

this is pure speculation but have you noticed that the numbers are different at the front end?

on the older models the first three numbers denote the CC of the bike that the part is for, yes it can still be different but i would surmise that all it will have at the very, very most is a little extra peak lift which your engine cannot take advantage of with it's present porting dimensions.

There are actually 3 cams

78036010333-450 (berg and KTM)
78636010033-530 (KTM only)
81736010033-570 (berg only)

I contacted GWR off KTMTalk, he said of the three the 570 was the "hottest". He also said that he is currently "working on something better". I will wait and start saving my pennies.

I don't understand why my engine wouldn't be able to take advantage of the extra lift (assuming there is some) as the 570 has the same head and valves as the 450? Is it the assumption that the change in the cam is so small that it will resulting in a very small change?
thanks,
Joe

570
78036030000 INTAKE VALVE
78036031000 EXHAUST VALVE
81236020000 CYLINDER HEAD CPL.

450
78036030000 INTAKE VALVE
78036031000 EXHAUST VALVE
81236020000 CYLINDER HEAD CPL

the port is the restriction so a bigger piston can start sucking harder at the beginning and at the end of each opening, a 450 can't do that. in the middle the port will slow the peak speed of the air down so they will be the same. again only the harder suction of the 570 would overcome these restrictions. there is a point at which it doesn't get the extra mixture because the valve lift is the restriction.

it won't be very hard for GWR to come up with something, he has dozens of cam grinds for the katooms.

Taffy
