I have noticed a few changes in the gas.

1. The fiber washer on the bowl drain plug of my 00 501 Dellorto carburetor has started leaking. Tightening it up does not stop the leak, the fuel is permeating through the gasket like it is porous.

2. The gas is much more volatile than it was several months ago. In a week, the fuel level in my 00 and 04 tanks drop a few inches due to evaporation through the cap vent (I keep the tank valves shut off).

3. The fuel in the carburetor evaporates in a couple of weeks, causing the float valve to stick. This happens in both the 00 and 04.

4.The LC4 fuel line (a 'J' shaped piece of molded rubber ) I use on my 00 has swelled from the effects of the gas.

Any body else noticed this on their bikes?

I use Arco.

Regards,

Joe

Joe, We have Ethanol added to our gas in the fall and winter. Could this be the reason for the difference you have noticed?

nothin to do with US gas but once saw a friend spill some special race gas he was about to put in his rally car. started eating into the concrete floor in front of our eyes.

stayed away from it after that.

I have always empted the gas tank and float bowl after each ride. ethanol eats away at most stardard carb parts and the gas discolors the fuel tank with in short time. i have seen the race gas eat away at o-rings.

In Australia if ethanol is added it has to be disclosed. Government is pushing for ethanol to be in petrol - lots of sugar cane - renewable reource. I always use the hi-octane/premium unleaded as that is what is recommended - I was also told regular unleaded can cause problems with piston etc ? Premium costs a bit more but you get higher octane so must work out to be no more expensive - plus you get a bit more performance when you open the throttle. VROOOOOM ---->

I already have to take the cover off flywheel when I get back from a ride on the Hassleberg- not going to empty carb and tank also !! On that issue I actually remove the flywheel insection plug most times as is is a pain to get the large O-Ring type seal back in place - I assume any mouiture/condensation can escape through that
