hey ned37 how are you? I dont have a starter gear its kick only so behind clutch assembly is the kick start assemble at least I hope that is other wise i really dont know what Im doin. someone before told me to flush it out. how do you do this step, anyone know?
 
i meant the k/s gear. if i remember right (and its prolly wrong), on your model the gear on the k/s shaft is completely clear of the clutch and will pull off the shaft without clutch removal. i think the intermediate or idler gear is the one behind the clutch. but its been too long since i was in the early engine...senior moments abound.
as far as flushing is concerned, i pulled the reed assy out, laid the bike over hard to the right put a quart of diesel fuel (it was cheaper then)in the engine, getting a lot in the reed hole too , agitated it well, picked the bike up, leaned it to the left to drain, repeat, then pulled the oil drain plug and filter, and did it again, letting it come out the drain hole. a good light oil is what is needed for flushing, diesel was easiest to get.
